996T/996XT question

Has anyone compared the T to the XT on the metro Richmond system? I have a few 996Ts at work that don't seem to track as well as my personal GRE-500. I was looking at getting a mobile, I'm sure I won't get a 996T, but didn't want to get the XT if it was the same, and would end up with the GRE-600. Its a rather subjective question, but I would think some differences have been noted.

FWIW, both the GRE and the work 996Ts have the latest updates.

I have compared the 396T and 396XT (same guts as the 996T/XT). The XT performs significantly better on all digital systems. I never hear any motorboating and don't miss and transmissions. As you have noted, when the T models are compared to any digital-capable GRE model, the GRE wins hands down. The XT series was a significant improvement for Uniden, but I still think my PSR-500 just edges out my 396XT on digital voice quality. That being said, I prefer the feature set of the Uniden more.
