I spent a couple of hours at Rockford (Chicago-Rockford International Airport, RFD) and in that time span I saw a flight of 6 Aero L39's take off 2 at a time in formation preceded by a B-25 bomber.( All 7 returned an hour later.) Also flying were numerous GA aircraft, including some old Piper Cubs, a Stinson or 2 and a few Beech V-Tails. Allegiant came and went with a couple MD-80's, and there were a few private jets coming and going.

There was some sort of breakfast event this morning at the Emery FBO as there were dozens of planes heading there, many were reporting "First time at the airport". Is this a regular Hundred Dollar Omelette thing?

I found a couple good spots:
The "Alpine" ramp (AKA South Cargo) gives a good thru-the-fence- view of 7-25 and the UPS ramp as well as a stored BAC-111 and an old WW2 bomber.

Along Falcon Road near Beltline Road (at the south end of 1-19) is a great place to catch planes coming in on 1 and out on 19.

Go north on Falcon Road and you will pass a few businesses that restore old aircraft, including a beautiful DC-3 that is in a great spot for photos.

Radio freqs heard in use include:

118.300 (Tower)
121.900 (Ground)
126.700 (ATIS)
121.000 (Departure- East)
126.000 (Departure-West)

(See the CARMA Profile at http://www.carmachicago.com/profiles for more)

This was a busy place on a nice Sunday morning, with a fascinating variety of vintage aircraft and some nice places to watch the action!

There's a name I haven't heard in a while... Did my first cross country into Rockford from Aurora when I was training as a kid. I remember being nervous, as it was my first vectored app.
