AR-DV10 A design copy?

I have never been an AOR radio fan. So it was not until I bought a Yaesu FTA-550L aircraft portable, that I noticed how AOR copied the Yaesu design. With obvious differences in software, both radios are identical.

Sometimes this happens with large manufacturers. They agree to share or license the molds and hardware components.

The AOR ARDV-10 was actually designed by Yaesu and announced by them first as Yaesu DV-10 with Yaesu label on the radio plus an owner manual that only talked about the radio being a Yaesu product (with NO mention of AOR). Soon after the Yaesu announcement, AOR announced their exact same product. So the Yaesu and AOR models are exactly the same model, however Yaesu announced they were discontinuing Yaesu model within approximately 1 year and essentially let AOR take the heat for poor sales and problems with the first several hardware and software iterations.

To make matters even worse, the Yausu manual was only written in Japanese and several of us downloaded the manual and ran it thru a translator program to read about all of the features before AOR offered in the manual. Also, Yausu only sold their product in Japan and made no effort to get it certified in the US. Although AOR never acknowledged it, they were dependent on Yausu software and hardware update.

Yes, and the batteries and other accessories for these Yaesu air band radios will work with the AR-DV10. I bought a spare battery for my DV-10 from a pilot shop; the battery was intended for the Yaesu radio buts is identical to the AOR battery except for the label.

Nice.......Good info... Unfortunately, with the current average $1,600 HRO price, I will not be getting one.

I ordered mine from Moonraker in the UK. $954. Still not cheap, but better than $1600.

No. It was a collaboration between Yeasu and AOR. This has been discussed here a few times before.
