I used to be big in the scanner community back in the 80s just getting back into it now that I am retired. I see there have been one or two changes since then ...ha ha. I am looking to find and app or a portable radio to monitor las vegas metro which is in the 700 mhz area I really need some suggestions based on people who have used these frequencies or at least know there stuff. There is so much info out there it's hard for an old guy like me to process it. whatever you can tell me would be valuable and appreciated thx.

A lot has changed since the 80s. Las Vegas Metro is a 100% encrypted agency and you will not be able to monitor them.

Well welcome back! Unfortunately a lot has changed and LVMPD is now fully encrypted. Most agencies on the SNACC system are not encrypted in Clark County. If you see “E” or “e” next to any digital modes that means encryption.

Point to clarify.
"E" means fully encrypted.
"e" means partially or selectable encryption.

So that's what that means. Thanks for the clarification, @W1KNE. Going back to OP's comments, I can't believe how much has changed in scanning just from 10 years ago. A lot! Welcome back to the hobby. 73 de N4NJJ
