Couple things going on here that I'm not sure why its happening...

On one of my conventional systems, I have a VHF police frequency set in the scanner setup exactly as it is in my handheld, the handheld picks it up, meanwhile the 996XT scans right on past the frequency and I have no idea why, this is happening with a few of the frequencies.

2nd, and this may be related to why its scanning past active traffic, I have close call on, and for some odd reason I'm getting hits on frequencies already programmed into the scanner!

I'm running out of ideas and need some help.

Thanks!

Going in reverse order:

Close call is doing what it should. Anything close, even if already programmed, will become active. Close call is a priority function, meaning that whenever something is close it will override and active transmission otherwise programmed.

On the second issue. It could be something with Close Call. You can determine whether that's the case by shutting off Close Call.

Also I'm presuming you have already gone through the motions of confirming that the entries are identical, including CTCSS. Have you checked to be sure the frequencies or groups are not locked out and that any associated quick keys (System or Group) are enabled?

The only other thing is that the squelch on the 996XT may be "tighter" than the handheld. Try loosening it.

Its been occurring with close call turned off too. I'm going to disable it completely after your explanation thank you.

Yes, all channel details match. I'm wondering if maybe I'm just not use to missing transmissions, this scanner scans much slower then the scanners I'm use to from the 90's.

Hold times are 0 for CVN groups and 2 for trunked, I'm just not crazy over how the scanning works, seems like I miss quit a bit while waiting for it to get back to that channel in the scan process.

I don't know.

You could try reducing the trunk hold time to 0 and see what happens. This may get it back on the conventional stuff quicker.
