A question concerning refining my talkgroups to be town specific

So my County (Morris County), is a project 25 Phase I system and my channels are arranged as follows:

MUN PD 1 - Chester Borough (46), Chester Township (47), Mendham Borough (18), Mendham Township (19), and Washington Township (38)

The fire/ems are arranged similarly as follows:

Fire Response 1 - Chester, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, Randolph, Washington Township
EMS Response 1 - Chester, Long Valley, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, Randolph

So when I have traffic on any of these channels it could be to or from any of these towns.

I'd like to try and filter the traffic to just two towns (Mendham Twp & Mendham Borough)

I'm guessing in order to do this I would have to have the individual radio ID's and create specific entries for each radio id? Is this how it would be done? I might be able to get a list of all the RID's.

Can this be programmed into my scanner if I were able to get such a list? I guess my other question would be how would I filter dispatch? When dispatch tries to talk to a specific radio or town is there a radio id associated with his transmission? This is real fine tuning and I'm just not sure how this would work. Are there pefix id's specific to each own? Back in the old days it would be a specific frequency for each town, but on these new trunked systems it's much more complicated.

Thanks,

Roveer

If all of those towns share the same talkgroup, there is no way to filter any one out from the others. The radio ID's wouldn't separate them either.

I'd be very surprised if these towns are listeneing to traffice from all the other towns. How are their radios doing this? Mendham Twp & Borough units listening to Washington Township traffic? and Chester traffic? Is this true? I guess I could ask one of my buddies at the police department.

That is exactly how it works - every town that's on a specific TGID hears all the other towns that share it.

You could set up a computer with Trunk88 or Unitrunker and set up your towns' radio IDs with a high priority. Then you will only hear your town.

Filtering by radio IDs would make it so you only hear your town's units, but wouldn't work on the most likely common situation where units from one town are assisting on incidents in another town. Quite often here, I hear units from town A working an incident (fire or even a medical call) and when another call in town A comes in, they may dispatch a unit from town B to handle it. I've even heard times when town A's units are working an incident in town B and when a call is dispatched, a unit from town B (that happened to be available when none from town A are free) is sent to handle the call. Filtering by radio IDs, you'd end up hearing transmissions from the town A's unit at the incident in town B and totally miss the call in town A.
