With 12.5 kHz refarming (NB), there are (or will be) many more.
AAR 112 - 160.2975 MHz is used by one of our local short lines.

160.295 will probably get you some but not all, you will have to invest in a narrowband receiver in the future.

Also I am guessing you are newer to railroad communications given your really excited comments about finding the bandplan for the AAR channels.

Also note someone mentioned the lower channels only being used in Canada, not true, they are licensee in the US, in Factories etc, got a factory that uses Channel 6 here and does have license.

yea same here cifn2 whats weird is the pro-404 steps to 12.5 on other channel but from 137 to 174 it is 5

They are used in the US, but not for railroads; they are licensed for other services, as you pointed out. :wink:

The change to narrowband is going to be interesting (anything involving railroads is these days). Not sure if I want to buy a new radio just because of this but if we want to play... A lot of railfans are having fits about it too.

What is a good motorola Radio that is capable for the change? i live about 10 miles from the downtown fort worth texas hub and i was thinking about getting a spectra for AAR monitoring, or should i look for a diff desk model?

Im not a Moto guy, but from my understanding Spectras are not narrowband ready.

One other note, though it will be many, many years before RRs go digital, it might not be a bad idea to think about getting a digital radio now. Being an Icom LMR dealer, I am partial to the IDAS line, but I hear good things about the kenwoods NX radios too.
Icom just came out with a "basic" (read cheaper) line of NXDN digital radios. F3101D handheld, and F5121D mobile/base.
Something to think about.

Every locomotive radio I have operated, has had a AAR 98-98. Its 161.610, an old Rock Island frequency that is actually still in use in some parts of the US.

There is no official channel 1. Channels 2 - 7 are programmed into the US radios. Whats to say two crews wanting to chit chat goes to AAR 05-05? It does happen.

You will want something narrow band, like the HT1250 or CDM1250.
