ACARS .... Whats a good FREEWARE program

for deciphering the data bursts from aircraft?

Using: Windows 98SE (Ver 4.10.2222A; no updates), Internet Explorer 5.50, 32 Mb Sound card, 32 Mb Video card, 1 GHz. Processor. One Parallel port available only -- no USB port available.

Scanner is a Bearcat 785D.

Would have to run a 10' (maybe 12' depending on how I'd have to work it around, under & behind stuff on desk) cable from scanner to computer -- can't set scanner next to computer because of the interference by the comp.

I prefer PDW myself. It can decode....other things of interest as well with some imagination and a slight alteration to your scanner.... :twisted:

I'd spend some time cleaning that up; it's a little detective work, I know but it'll pay dividends in the long run. I'm going thru something of the sort myself...

If you're not interested in that other stuff :wink: then this is among the best I've tried; it even decodes the message types, something that, if you're not experienced in reading that sort of stuff, is a big help...

I second ACARSD.
Been using it for 6 months and never touch Airnav these days.

The fact that you can update the database easily is worth the world.

The syncronize function (to a central database) is great.

Love it.

I'm gonna throw in with the ACARSD group, for reasons stated in the other ACARS header in The Scanner Forum.

And if you use ACARSD, you can take advantage of POSFIX (free!) to plot location transmissions. Sample pic uploaded covers about six hours of ACARS reception...
