Been some time since I've heard anything in my area in this portion of the band. But this morning while clearing out a box of old radios, I heard some familiar "chirping on 418.950 on an old analog scanner. Did a quick search on a PSR 500 and got 418.950 NAC 156 and encrypted as expected. I then did a narrow 417-419 search and got 418.525. It was analog and weak. It captured a pl of 67 so it could be an image. I'll listen more. Interesting to me because as I said, I haven't heard anything other than the local FPS (all encrypted in this section of the band in a long while.

Glad to see NY continues to use the ole UHF DEA channels as does New England.
418.9500 is Ch.06 for Albany had not had anyone mention that one since 2011 when it was still Analog :)

418.5250 and 67.0 is likely an image as that Freq is State Dept but an input to 409.5250 and is P25

Is FPS Albany still using 408.2000 $270 ?

Thank you for answering.

Yes. FPS is still exactly as you say. Mostly full time encryption. Sometimes once side may be clear Interestingly enough at the same time I was hearing this activity on DEA, on analog with a 156.7 pl was a lot of data sounds. The P 25 traffic on 418.500 sounded like repeater out not in. But I will check out the lower section too.

That image sounds like a business. I'll look around.

You are correct Bill. I was trying to remember the last time I had activity in this region of the band on the Fed side. Still plenty of VHF stuff around these parts! As you know it take a lot of patience. Always fun though.

Oops. Sorry typo. I meant the P25 traffic on 418.950 sounded like repeater. But they must have been fairly close as that is the input?

Thanks!
If it's a repeater output then it's an old one that hasn't been rebanded. I don't know if that's possible or if any are left.
If its a repeater input then the output should be 409.95. See if you hear anything there. Since about 2008 the 406.1-420 band has a +9 MHz offset.
It might be simplex.

Yes Thank you. In my brain I guess I was going back to years ago when we used to listen to all the analog activity there. After your post I went into Chris Parris' fed blog and looked around. I entered that frequency to listen as well.

I remember in the 80's the Chicago Field office of the DEA using the 406-410mhz in the clear. I was sitting on my parents front porch listening on my bearcat 100. There was some very interesting and colorful surveillance conversations...

Here in SE PA the DEA still use the old channel plan, (418.9 rptr out NAC156), and it is a mix of clear/ecryp; but most a/c surv is in the clear.

Northeast [Likely NY/NJ/PA as well] are still the legacy pairs from the Analog days, but now "Mixed Mode"
as we do hear 156.7 from time-time with OTAR

Now keep in mind, what is in the RR DB is the most Common pairs/channels.
Over the years, Regional Offices did add other channels/pairs depending on the needed channels [Operational Tempo]
and in my area, it is not uncommon to have 3-4 Repeaters and 2+ simplex channels in operation at one time

Many times, switching channels, due to the airwing having interference from another [not close] Surv ops down in Southern CT, NY or NJ :)

Thanks again. I will keep listening.

I used to listen to 418.900 if I recall correctly, and you could hear agents tailing vehicles around ChiTown.
