Background:
The code for this program was based on the "Simple Database Framework" and changed to suit my need of logging aircraft movements. Aircraft Movement Logger 2010 (ACML2010v2) has been written in Just Basic V1.01 (JB V1.01) using the least amount of code possible to keep it both as simple and easy to fix / add features / debug and to also make it as quick to load as possible. The reason I wrote ACML2010v2 was that I have been unable to find any free software that suits my needs of logging aircraft movements as I hear them, while some good commercial software exists for this task I feel they are expensive for what they do and have a lot of features and options that I don’t need. ACML2010v2 is designed to be as easy and simple to use as possible and this is reflected in the fact that I don’t charge for it and allow anybody who would like to use it for free. I have written ACML2010v2 to suit my own needs and if other people find it useful then that is great but if not I have a program that does exactly what I want.
System Requirements:
- Windows XP SP1 or later, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (Will not work on Windows 2003 server or Windows 2008 server)
- 600MHz CPU
- 256MB RAM
- 10MB Hard drive space
- No internet connection required for use (allows for off-line use in the field)
Installation and use:
After downloading the install file (ACML2010v2.zip) please unzip this file to a folder on your computer, as an example C:\ACML2010v2. If you have a system or process in place to backup your files I recommend adding this folder to that system as once you start to log your own flights the amount of data you will have will grow and it could be upsetting if you lost this data for any reason due to a problem with your computer. After unzipping the files to the folder above you can run ACML2010v2 by doubling clicking on the file ACML2010v2.exe.
In this folder you will see a number of files which have special functions and are required to make the program work.
ACML2010v2.exe – This is the executable file and is used to launch ACML2010v2, if you would like you can create a shortcut to this file on your desktop.
DATA.ACML – This file stores all the logs you enter.
DATABack.ACML – This file is a backup of DATA.ACML and is updated every time ACML2010v2 is opened.
ACML2010v2.htm - This file which contains important information. All the other files in this folder are required system and DLL files and must not be deleted or ACML2010v2 will not work as designed.
Problems and Faults
All the code in this program has been checked on different operating systems (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7) and from this testing it is not known to cause any problems or contain any viruses / adware / spy ware but as I can’t test it on every possible system setup “YOU USE THIS PROGRAM AT YOUR OWN RISK” If you do find any issues or problems with it then please contact me at the email address at the top of this file and I will try to help you to get it working if I can. If ACML2010v2 does close because of an error it will create a file called error.log in the ACML2010v2 folder, when reporting any bugs or issues please include this file. ACML2010v2 has been tested with over 45000 records, this would require you to log 25 events a day every day for 5 years.
