Adams County SO on DTRS

Just heard some Adams County Sheriffs Office supervisors discussing distrubution of new radios and where the "new" system works well and where it does not.

Using Id 0023 which is listed as ACSO Dispatch.

Anyone know more about there exact implementation schedule?

I thought they were going 400, but if they implement the DTRS, that would be great!

This sure sounded like they were going DTRS, they talked at length about testing coverage in Eastern Parts of the county and how they would get the radios put into the cars and handhelds distrubuted.

Adams County SO Update

From Adams County here, is the deal with the dtrs. We have already began to install radios in the patrol cars and transport vans. They are the first phase the patrol Deputies and transport are also getting assigned portables. It is gonna take a while to implement the whole department but we should be up and running and fully on the state system in 18 months. Every thing will be simulcast on our current channel until then.

Good deal. Maybe this will put pressure on cities like Westminster to go with the DTRS instead of EDACS. I doubt it, but that's my hope. It would be good if the agencies could all talk to each other.

It's not going to happen. Aurora making the switch to EDACS back in Februrary is the start of what will eventually become a wide coverage EDACS network that will include Aurora, Denver, DIA, Lakewood and Westminster systems.

I don't see ESK being implemented anytime soon since a majority of the field radios on the older systems do not have the ability to be flashed for the ESK feature however if some of the folks with unique pro-voice LPE's and Jag's get careless on the Aurora system (you know who you are) it would not take alot of effort for M/A Com to implement it on the Aurora system.

Long term figure that this wide coverage EDACS network will have pro-voice capability available to all agencies on it.

Crap. I was hoping Aurora was an exception. If all the EDACS users in the metro area start using Pro-voice, there will be much less traffic to listen to.

You'd think that on some level it would occur to our government that having a system where ALL LE radio networks could talk to each other would be a good thing. Apparently, this is not the case.

I was thinking along the lines of around 5 years down the road.

With Denver's current budget woes I wouldn't expect them to jump on the bandwagon for at least a few years if any.

Lakewood was originally setup to be Aegis digital when they switched however poor results using that mode ended up with the police staying analog. Since that time they have installed more powerful transmitters on Green Mountain.

Westminster's system is small enough to where a site upgrade would not be that difficult to implement.

For now it's evident that M/A has no desire to release or license pro-voice for scanners.
