• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I may be in a position to have my G4 Keyloaded (Authorized) if some agency encryption happens. I know about the Key Utility to configure they key set. But can you load AES Keys directly from a KVL4000 to the G4? Is there a special cable? I need the steps.

Thanks

Keyloading is via Unication software only not KVL, however if its agency authorized itll be up to the radio shop to be willing to do it, if they dont use the software correctly and password the key files they are not secure at all

This is interesting to me because one of the larger police departments in my area is planning to go fully encrypted at some point but they want to allow media to continue to have access to the channels. One of the suggestions was to program Unications with the key to accomplish this.

Ok, let's say most of this part is already good to go. I need to be able to extract Let's say.. "Key 262" from the KVL4000 as a key file. How do you transfer it off of the KVL to a PC?

I hope this changes. One of the agencies I monitor (with authorization) uses AES and the encryption was established before our time. The key is only in the KVL so it can be shared and loaded in our Motorola radios, but no on knows the key to type it in the Unication Utility. Our only option would be to reprogram ever radio and...yeah, that's not happing so I carry a spare Moto for this agency only. I like the Unication as I can monitor the neighboring departments while I keep my radios on my dispatch channel.

The KFDtool can recover an unknown key from a KVL using the MR emulate mode.

So going back to part of the original question is if I have the code, whether memorized written down scratched on a wall…does anyone have the step by step instructions of how to get that from the encryption software into the pager
