    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Baofeng Baofeng DM32UV Encryption

Hi, I have a Baofeng DM32UV, I have a couple encryption keys loaded in it, encrypting voice that i transmit from the baofeng works fine, and I can decrypt it on my Motorola DP4801 (XPR7550) however, voice that is encrypted by Motorola, either AES256 or RC4 is not decoded on the baofeng, I just hear white noise, a hiss. Please help me come to a solution or at least an understanding. DSD-FME decodes both transmissions fine, encrypted or not, and yes shows the same key used.

The problem is often the KEY ID. You need to use the same keys, but also in the same order. If the RC4 key AABBCCDDEE is in position number 1 in the Motorola CPS key list, that key must also be in the same position in the Baofeng CPS. Then, it must be applied to the channel.

Often, the key AABBCCDDEE is in the third position in the Motorola CPS key list, and in the first position in the Baofeng CPS list. If we are on the frequency 450.500 MHz, we put the key AABBCCDDEE on the 450.500 channel of the Motorola, and we put the same key AABBCCDDEE on the 450.500 channel of the Baofeng, thinking it will work.

But it will not work, because although the key is the same, the KEY ID is different: KEY ID 3 on the Motorola, but KEY ID 1 on the Baofeng.

So, the list must be identical on all radios: the same keys and in the same positions in the key list.

The KEY ID is also transmitted over the air; you can actually see it with DSD-FME. You just need to check if the KEY ID is the same on all radios using DSD-FME.

DSD-FME doesn’t handle the KEY ID when you provide the key using the -H option; it applies the key directly. But it’s not the same with radios.

It is the same key ID, I put extra attention while putting them in the CPS, both in the same order and same key ids, dsd fme shows same key id while keying up each radio, and as I said Motorola decodes baofeng just fine, and just hiss the other way around.
