Air band crystals for Realistic/Radio Shack Scanner

Hello group,

I got nostalgic and recently purchased a Realistic PRO-48 10 channel crystal scanner, primarily for the purpose of monitor aircraft radio traffic near my home. It seems like it's a real trick finding a source for crystals for this scanner in the 118-136 MHz band. Has anyone got an idea of where I can find these online? I've found a few but they have a pretty limited selection, I have specific frequencies I'm looking for, so just trying to find any source that might have a broad range of crystals to choose from.

Which frequencies do you need? Not much demand for scanner crystals any longer. I used to get them from Bomar through Radio Shack. You can check at G&G Communications or Ken's Electronics. Radio Shack and Regency scanners used a 10.7 MHz first IF. A lot of the Bearcat scanners used 10.8. They are not interchangeable.

Thanks. Bomar responded to me but said that they wanted $50 per Crystal for specific frequencies. So, do some quick math and come up with $500 for 10 channels? I wanted to be nostalgic, not broke!

What a weird combo! Never knew about this place.
Yes, incredibly weird website! I have sent an email to them to see what they can do. Really limited out there, might be worth trying to find equipment to create your own crystals!

That's their way of saying they don't want scanner business. Ridiculous. You could have an SDS.

Yeah, nostalgic is one thing, cost is another. Those old radios worked great. Simple to operate, good audio, and almost never a problem. I'm still using daily a 40 year old 16 channel programmable scanner.

Specifically I'm looking at 120.050 and 120.500 but still monitoring my local airport to see what else might be active. Thanks for the heads-up on the two types of crystals, I wasn't aware of that!

You'll have to educate me on what an SDS is? I am checking things out with the

You'll have to educate me on what SDS is? I'm checking in with the Hi-Pro folks to see what they can do for me.

If you are interested in older scanners and listening to aircraft, hard to beat a Radio Shack Pro-2006. I have 2 that I use daily. Very sensitive, nice range of frequencies (both vhf and uhf aircraft since you are interested in aircraft). I see them in the classified area on Radioreference now and again, and on ebay. In fact, I use one just to sit on a unknown frequency (regardless of emission type) just to catch brief transmissions without tying up a digital scanner. Then once I hear anything from the pro-2006 and it's not FM, I put it in the digital scanner to decode. The 2nd pro-2006 is full time aircraft. No crystals to buy.

Thanks Richard! I think my nostalgia may have gotten in the way of my common sense, per usual!
