From 'Ken' on the MilairCommsChat Yahoo group - with minor editing by yours truly...

Well for those of you that can't make the Westfield show, there's also a
show & military base open house at Quonset State Airport, RI featuring the
Thunderbirds (6/24 & 6/25/06). (Unfortuantely, both shows -- one with the
TBirds & the other with the Blue Angels ended up being scheduled for the
same weekend, and it might be a bit challenging for most folks to attend
both shows, BUT ....) Hopefully many of you in Rhode Island & Southeastern
MA will make it to this show!!!

Rhode Island Airshow information can be found at:
http://www.riguard.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=52

As stated before "Monitoring Times" magazine March 2006 edition has a
complete list of airshow frequencies that might be used.

Potential Thunderbirds demo teams freqs may be:
AM Mode:
140.40
141.85
143.85
235.20
235.25
322.95
142.575 (NFM)

[The Grove list, including Thunderbird frequencies, can be found at:
http://www.monitoringtimes.com/html/mtairshow06.pdf ] ka3jjz

Mike Goulian & other civilian aero performers: 123.15
Sean Tucker: 122.95
Other potential civilian: 122.75, 122.775, 123.475
(courtesy "Monitoring Times" magazine)

Combined Arms demo: 303.0 & 383.3

As far Aero frequencies at the airport
Checkout: http://www.airnav.com/airport/KOQU
military UHF Tower add: 252.9

Regarding support frequencies check out Grove's Military Frequency Directory
2nd edition
also (posted in 2005 by Rob to the RI list):
141.80R Security
148.50 Base Medical
149.475 Fire Crash Net
Also
Basically searching the 138-144, 148-150.8 mhz area might find some new
frequencies in use

My previously monitoring notes (2003/2004 time frame) also shows the
following potential frequencies:
ON BASE RADIO SYSTEMS SUPPORT:
Security (& air show common): 141.8 Repeater/143.80 & 139.625
Fire/Crash: 149.475
Base Ops/Show Control: 148.225
Utilties Support & Comfort: 149.175
Airport Admin: 153.92 (155.04)
Medical/EMS: (probably the DMAT team on UHF 407 to 420 (search))
Misc others (potential): 139.75, 139.975, 141.625, 148.125, 148.45, 148.50,
148.55, 149.25, 149.725, 163.4625, 163.4875, 407.475, 413.125
Coast Guard Bay Security Support: 156.8, 157.15, 162.325 (other potential
157.075, 157.125, 157.05, 157.10, 157.175, 162.125, 162.25, 163.05, 163.175,
164.55)

Additionally Bill provided the following details to the former RI SCAN list
in 2004:
National Guard uses the following
138.4000 S Ch.01 Maintenance
139.7500 S Ch.02 Age
139.3750 S Ch.03 Supply
141.6250 S Ch.04 Fuel
148.1250 S Ch.05 Aerial Port Sq.
148.2250 S Ch.06 Base Ops / Ramp Control
148.5000 S Ch.07 Medical
148.5500 S Ch.08 Commanders Net
149.1750 S Ch.09 Civil Engineers
149.2500 S Ch.10 Security Police
149.2750 S Ch.11 Motor Pool
149.4750 S Ch.12 Fire/Crash
141.8000 S 151.4 Hz Ch.13 with 143.800 as the input
this is listed as "SPS Repeater" might be Security Police S....

Civilian Local/State Public Safety:
State PD: 151.505, 155.61, 154.925, 154.905, 155.445, 155.19
On Scene Parking/Traffic Control: 155.475
N. Kingstown PD: 155.58R
Fire Dept: 154.235 Repeater
Emergency Medical: 155.22, 463.075 (MED4), 463.000 (MED1), 463.10 (MED5),
463.15 (MED 7).

I especially like the Rhode Island show because the parking area has no
obstructions & the airshow narrator is broadcasted on in normal FM radio
frequency, so if you get tired on the flight line you can go back to your
vehicle and relax & still see (much of) & hear the narration of the show.

Brian (from CT) will be the Wagon Guy attending & setup on the show line at
the Rhode Island National Guard Airshow, Quonset State Airport, North
Kingstown RI this upcoming weekend.

Again depending upon what show (or both shows if you body can stand the
environmental punishment! :)) this would be an excellent assembly point for
military radio communications hobbyists to at least meet at & also get a
look at the impressive scanner radios /antennas / dc power setup (mounted on
a wagon) that Brian has engineered, implemented, & refined over
the many years they attend these shows.

A minor follow up, since I didn't have time to post it this AM, as I was running late for work...

You can find UASD 396 and 246 loaded files from that MT article (altho due to the freq limitations, the 246 UASD doesn't have milair stuff) as well as a zip file containing Excel spreadsheets with all the MT freqs at this thread.

http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37970

That may save you at least a little typing. 73s Mike

Thunderbird frequencies

I realize this is quite after-the-fact, but thought I'd provide an update.

The team just finished a two day airshow at the Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Ga. I live close enough to the base that I didn't even have to leave home to view the show!
I programmed all the following frequencies:

140.0000 Air-Air
140.2000 Support Aircraft
140.4000 Air-Air
141.4000 4 Plane formation
141.8500 4 Plane to PA
143.8500 PA link/Air-Air
148.5500 Maint.
235.2500 Control
236.5500 Air-Air 5-6
236.6000 Air-Air
241.4000 Air-Air 5-6
250.8500 Team Leader
269.9000 Control-Airboss
273.5000 Air-Air 5-6
283.5000 Air-Air 5-6
294.7000
322.3000 Air-Air
322.6000 Air-Air
322.9500 Plane 5-6 Solo
382.9000 Air-Air Tac
394.0000 Air-Air Tac
413.0250 Maint./Gnd Ch.1
413.1000 Maint./Gnd Ch.2
413.1500 Gnd Support
413.2750 Gnd Support
413.3500 Gnd Support
413.4000 Gnd Support

into my new Uniden BCD-396T and heard NOTHING! I did frequency searches using not only this scanner but also my Uniden BC-250D and my Radio Shack PRO-64. I could not find anything from/of the Thunderbirds. I was able to find the "airboss" frequency and the "discreet" (plane-to-plane) frequency for the Red Eagles aerobatic team.

I don't have any idea what frequencies they are using currently, but they are NOT using any of the above--at least not at this airshow.

2011---

"126.35 VHF (not marine band) for the Tower and Air Boss during the show.
134.50 VHF for Ground control but that will not be very busy after the
static display's get parked tomorrow.

If he has UHF the two freq's are 252.9 for tower and 275.8 UHF for Ground."

I was told that the tower at quonsett does not have the blue angel frequencies, that they don't get to talk to them. If anyone has 2011 frequencies for the blue angels, I'd love you forever if you can post them.

The Thunderbirds are NOT at Quonset this year, the Blue Angels are. I realize this thread was started in 06, but some readers might not notice that.

quick question....why on earth does my bc-145xl not picking these up? Keeps saying error, like it's not in use or something.

Just got back from Sunday's show at Quonset. We parked outside the gate in the Kohls/Daves parking lot. Very crowded as usual this year but better than most of the shows I've seen recently including PaxRiver and Andrews. Had the scanner on and the new Blue Angel Team Leader was a riot to listen to. Kennyblues your frequencies were dead on, thanks for the heads up. Does it sound like I'm glad we've been transfered back up to RI? :)
