The dual-band APX7500 ran me about $6600 a couple years ago when I bought it for our rescue truck. There are rumors that there will be an APX8500 (may already be out; I haven't exactly been "shopping" lately) which is the mobile version of the tri-band APX8000, so it's worth (at least in Motorola's eyes) that much more.

I recently spoke with an FD in southern Alberta who is migrating to AFRRCS and bought APX7000XEs which, with accessories, came out to about $8500 apiece.
Now buy 4 APX7000' plus the Technisonic chassis... I would guess at some point they will offer a 4x APX8000 option...

Cobham formally Northern Airborn Technology makes a certified radio too.

When I priced them out before Christmas I believe the Technisonics was about $18k Canadian and the NAT/Cobham $19k Canadian.

The issue kayn is referring to is not necessarily the air certification (though that's part of it) but the vetting by AFRRCS. They, reportedly, only allow radios that have passed their testing plan into their "permitted radio list" and onto their system. To date, the Technisonic is the only aviation radio on the list.

Though it seems odd to me that it would need vetting if it is just an APX in a box, unless the box does something to how the APX operates. The full vetting procedure (AFAIK) is available in the AFRRCS Handbook and one would expect if the APX is vetted, that a device which uses the APX as its core would inherit that vetting.

Probably just a technical requirement. I will look for some info on the technisonic gear...

They might. This radio is the only airborn option for RCMP/EPS/CPS/STARS/HERO/any other orginization that wants/needs AFRRCS access while airborn in order to stay legal with Transport Canada rules. Technisonic radio actually contains Motorola APX/XTS portables interfaced in their chassis. Not sure what model it is but you can have 4 APX dualband radios. Very pricey radios...

Check that, the TDFM-9000 series can support 6 single/dual band RF modules.

http://til.ca/content/pdfs/TDFM-9000_Brochure.pdf

The TDFM-9100 supports 2 single/dual and radios.

Is that the price with AES 256, or is that on top?

If you cheek the new updated search Canada TAFL you will find some new Alberta Sustainable Resources fire net frequencies in the digital format, looks like they are using the same fire net frequencies they are using now just cheek your proper fire net zone for the frequencies good luck

Where are you seeing digital freqs? I know how to click on the FRID ("Details" on the right side of the mckie.ca search) to show details about the frequency, but all of them I've checked so far have been analog.

I've never been very trusting in the modulation shown in the Spectrum Direct/Spectrum Manglement System data. It's improved a little lately, but there's way too much out of date and just plain wrong.

So far in the south I have not heard any digital on the frequencies listed above. At least I have not locked these frequencies out yet. But will have to see during the fire season.

While I have not heard any P25 either, ASRD ma be adding emission designators to have the option to use P25 at some point in the future.

Robertmac, have you ever thought about buying a digital scanner/radio to be able to actually listen to digital modes? Or are you just going to keep locking verything out until you have only ham, marine, air and truckers?

You do know that whistler can monitor it all but tetra and encrypted comms?

I should have clarified that the "locking out" applies to my amateur radio. Much better sound output than scanners. I do have a digital scanner that is getting as useless as well. As summer is approaching, there is beginning to be more activity on all forestry frequencies so will be listening a little closer.

A few posts above there was some discussion of radios. So I'm not sure if this should remain here, go to AFRRCS or start a new one. At a recent trip to one of our local hunting stores there was a Fish and Wildlife officer there. I noticed he had a Kenwood hand held. I have not paid much attention to Fish and Wildlife since they went to iDen. I would have thought they were on AFRRCS. Unfortunately I had my hands on something that prevented me from getting into a discussion with him and when I was free he was gone. But that got me wondering about the Kenwood portable. Unfortunately, I did not get a good view of it other than the Kenwood name on the top. But that got me wondering just what they are using as I can't remember seeing, on any threads, any mention of what they are currently using.
