Hi to all! New with my scanner (and 'scannering'), I have a slight problem with my DJ-X10 that I purchased recently second-hand.

Wile I'm listening to any frequency, the sound is OK for 11 seconds, then cuts off (reception drops off completely too) for 3 seconds, then cycles in this way. It's getting tedious.

I've done a system reset, and turned the squelch down to 0, but to no avail! HELP!! If anyone knows what the problem may be, and how to fix it, I'd be most grateful for any info.

Thanks in advance

Kevin

I don't know if I can be any help, but it almost sounds like it could be in the scan mode. See what mode it is in, busy, stop or timer. F > ENT, scroll down to scan set-up, ent. then scan mode, it should give the options.

Thanks for the replies. In the VFO mode for scanning, the scan is set to 'busy', but when it's not 'scanning' (searching for available frequencies up or downwards), and I'm sitting on a fixed frequency, it still does this. Even when I reset the system to factory settings (suggested on another board) and used it in 'manual' mode (no scan) the pauses still occurred... As for the priority channel, I haven't set one up since the reset...

Physical problem with the scanner maybe???

Sounds like you probably have the spectrum watch mode selected - one of the side buttons turns the spectrum watch on and off - when its in watch mode every 15 seconds or so it scans either side of the freq entered to update the display and it usually takes about 2 seconds to do the scan and update. Then when its done it goes back to the freq as entered. Its a nice feature to find new activity but really annoying when you are trying to listen to something. Will have to look and see if I can find my book, really nice radios with lots of great features in a very small package.

Got in touch with a company in France (where I'm stationed at the moment) and they suggested doing a total reset (system + memories). This i did, but still have the same problem. So I now have a 'virgin' scanner with factory settings, and it's still doing this cycle of 11 seconds/3 seconds...
Getting fed up with this!!!

It's operating in what the book calls "search" mode and that's how it works. Every 10-15 seconds it does a sweep on each side of the frequency that is displayed and it takes about 3 seconds to do the sweep and update with no audio while it does the sweep. Use the side key marked "srch", that turns the feature on and off. If the key does not work then the radio is in "beginner" or basic mode, change it to expert and you can toggle the search function on and off. The search function from the side key is completely different from the scan function on the keypad. The search function is like a spectrum analyzer, the scan function scans either between presets or continuously depending on how you set it up.

Nueces162 - Man U'r Nuts (sic)... Thankyou everso much!! You win the 1st prize of being the Man!!! Found the menu with the button you mentioned and that seems that with the menu, even on factory settings, it chooses systematically 'interval'. Tried 'continuous' and that didn't let me listen to anything when the 'bar graph' of all the local frequencies was shown - only when the 'equalizer' style bar was shown... Finally found the uppermost choice - 'single' and IT WORKS!!!

Need to ask though - which book do you have? I've been reading the users manual that I downloaded from a website and found next to nothing inside (more to the point, I haven't found it very useful at all - far too complicated... yet I've been a CB'er for years, and have a reasonable general theory on antennae and propagation...) Was even at the point this afternoon of dismounting the card inside to see if anything was visibly damaged... Glad I didn't got too far with that!!

Anyway Thanks a lot! And please, let me know what book you have and where I may get a copy...

Happy Listening!

Have 3 books/manuals on them, the first one is the hardcopy that came with mine, the other 2 are the users manual and the service manual. The last 2 are from the Alinco website in .pdf format, last time I checked they were still on the site. The instructions read like most of the ones translated into English from the original Japanese, but I think they did worse on this one than usual. It's not an intuitive radio to work with but in expert mode it gets really complicated, am still trying to figure out some of what they are talking about. The one from the site is different from the hardcopy and a little clearer on some of the search/scan setings though. One thing about these radios too, be careful of the BNC antenna jack, it does not have any support except the thin plastic case and is real easy to break loose, and its a bear to glue back. If the books are not still on the site then pm me with an email address and I will zip them and send them to you

I would like to contact nueces 162

I have a Alinco DJ-X10, but nothing else. I have been looking for the user manuals for this radio but only have came up with parts of one. Not much help with out the missing pages. I noticed you offered a fellow scannest copys of your manuals. And was hoping that you may be able to help me as well? I know those posts were back in 2-3-07 and understand you may no longer have these manuals. Thank you in advance for your time and ANY help you are able to give me. My E-Mail is : outlaw.60@hotmail.com

Thank You
