• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

This is the 3rd ship that has pulled in that every single radio is programmed with the exact same ID. I don't understand what they are trying to accomplish by doing this. Maybe the programmer was lazy and "cloned" all of the radios? Maybe they used the same codeplug and just blew it into every radio...

I will watch on Uni-Trunker and T4WIN and the subscriber ID is always the same. All of the other ships that have pulled in port in the past have been like every other TRS that I've seen with every radio having a unique ID. A hacker could really cause a LOT of problems on ships like this. I mean how are they going to inhibit an illegal radio on the system? What if a radio is stolen? If they send an inhibit command, then every radio will be made useless.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Last time I was in Rota was July 4th 1976, Well if your talking USN ships I'am sure day to day radio traffic has to be in the open. You can be sure the security is there where needed.

Yes they are USN ships. Believe it or not, every single transmission is in the clear. Even on the 380 MHz systems and only one of those has been digital. I didn't have my 396 at the time, so I never got the chance to monitor it properly.

You'd be surprized at the info that they pass, i.e. names, SSNs, times of events, etc. The "times of events" thing really scares me. They honestly hold nothing back as far as information goes...

[edit] These are very low power systems. I can see the ships from my house (not even a 1/4 mile away) and have a hard time listening with a handheld. I have an external antenna that I use for the Pro-2006 with Uni-Trunker to log everything. As these ships are leaving port, the signal fades extremely fast. I'll still be able to see the ship, but won't be able to hear them even with the external antenna.
