I stumbled on the BBHN project by accident, and it quickly got added to my project list found here:

I'm from Atlanta, Texas... I live in a VERY rural area... so rural I'm still shocked I have DSL at my house! I was visiting my father-in-law's in Little Elm, TX (just north of Dallas) when the Denton BBHN net was announced on my buddy's repeater. I was supposed to leave in the morning, but I hung around until 1400 hours to check in on the net... but first, I google'd exactly what BBHN *WAS*.
Well, I had already decided on bringing APRS to my area, complete with a digipeater w/ iGate. After all, I have a DSL connection.
Well, I figured I'd put up a node... probably stand-alone at first, but maybe I can get some interest generated in this area. There's another ham, and near-lifelong friend that lives 2 miles from me as the crow flies. As a matter of fact, he can't get DSL where he lives. But I digress.
Then it hit me... why don't I gate the APRS digipeater from *INSIDE* the node, and let the node act as the firewall. This way, I could allow any ham direct access to the TNC who's on the mesh! I don't know that it's ever been done, and I just may be the first!
...and, of course, I'm looking forward to setting up an IRC server on the radio. I've been using IRC since the mid-90's, and even operated an IRC server for several years.
...and I think I might set up a Wiki, but I'm toying with a few ideas on the implementation on that.
I run a wireless router in my patrol car that is configured to connect to the net via my home router, or a Verizon MiFi when I'm on patrol... I'm looking at setting up a mobile node in the car, as well. I'm hashing out the implementation ideas on that, as well.
