Can you clarify what number to check? The fifth number in my serial is a "2" (58002xxx)...

Per this information in the Radio Reference Wiki (assuming it is correct), if the fifth character in the serial number is 2 then the year code is 2022.

n1chu-Check how the outside gift box looks and the S/N, and if it was made in 2025, the first number should be 5 after the 4-digit code.

Radio arrived today. Outside of the box looks pristine and the 5th digit in the S/N is 5. So I guess I did good… paid $375 ($353 plus Ct Sales Tax) delivered.

Surprisingly the $353.14 price for the BCD996P2 at Amazon (shipper/seller Amazon.com) is still valid as of today (10-08-2025). For those who might prefer the handheld version, Amazon (shipper/seller Amazon.com) also has an excellent price of $340.20 for the BCD325P2.

FYI for comparison purposes, the Uniden MAP for the BCD996P2 is $499.99 and the Uniden MAP for the BCD325P2 is $449.99.

Hi all! This Amazon deal is what brought me back to the forum. Like others here I wanted a digital scanner but $500 was too steep. I got the prime deal (after some hesitation). I ordered Wednesday and it arrived today. The inner box was a bit rough on the corners, but my serial number has a 5, and everything in the box was brand new. I think this was a great deal.

It appears that the 3 sites in Sussex County are not simulcast and the BCD325P2 handheld or BCD996P2 base/mobile will work OK. Simulcast distortion is a major problem with other sites on the NJICS statewide trunked system. That results in missed transmissions and garbled audio. Although Highpoint, Walpack, and Hamburg Mtn in Sussex County show to be separate sites with different frequencies on the NJICS system, license WQYK287 shows that all 3 sites use the same frequencies and it appears to be a single simulcast cell. I request that someone in the area let me know if that is a simulcast cell for state police only. pjtnascar, please let me know if you need any help with programming. I am attaching a PDF file with instructions for using quick keys on your scanner. Print it out and save it for your reference. Info in the manual is rather sparse.

I'm over the river in Milford PA and within range of High Point and Walpack. Have never experienced distortion on NJICS including state police on my 436

It's interesting that the current pricing is identical down to the penny at both Amazon (ships by/sold by Amazon) and Home Depot with the BCD996P2 at $353.14 and the BCD325P2 at $340.20. I noticed that Home Depot limits both scanner models to "2 per order."

These low prices have got to be close to wholesale/dealer cost when you consider the Uniden MAP is $449.99 for the BCD325P2 and the Uniden MAP is $499.99 for the BCD996P2. Most other Uniden dealers are currently selling these scanners for the full MAP.
