Coming to Ames for Thanksgiving and have couple questions about scanning in Ames. First, is Iowa State Patrol on analog or digital? If on digital what ISICS site and talkgroup are they on. Second ISU police dispatch on which system? Thank you very much.

The State Patrol is digital on the ISICS system. ISU police are still on the Iowa State University system. The RR Database has all the police and fire info you need. I don't have a SDS100 but I can confirm mixed results with older scanners following ISICS depending on your location and interference due to the Ames site being a simulcast 2 tower set up.

Story county is in "Area A" for programming your talkgroups.

I get great results with the ISICS Boxholm site on my TRX-1.

They will be moving to a new radio system at some point but I don't have any date and expect it to be later in 2020.
