I am monitoring AMR frequency 452.475 the dispatcher asked one of the ambulance crews if they were on the AMR radio or Waterbury Network digital a AMR radio tech came over the radio said he was switching over to digital. Can anybody in the Waterbury area look into it? I’m in the BRISTOL area. Thank you

It started during Covid that Trinity was using TG 62 and AMR was using TG 63 on Waterbury's trunk system, I guess they still are.

They were never operating on waterburys system, their channels were console patched to the Waterbury talkgroups. That patch has since been taken down.

Not sure about where you are, but AMR likes NXDN in many areas for their own radio system.

I would suggest waiting a couple days to see if it is permanent. Hartford is still analog but I would be surprised to see Hartford and New Haven to do the same thing.

Waterbury is mixed mode. Hearing Waterbury units on the NXDN but a couple analog transmissions happened earlier.
Hartford will likely remain analog as they are still running Motorola radios.
I can't hear New Haven so I can't help there.

New Haven ia still analog. I set my radio for NXDN only on Waterbury's repeater not knowing there was still some analog also. I guess I'll program it twice, once for each mode. I'm surprised they went NXDN instead of DMR but I'm sure they have their reasons. I bet @mmckenna has an idea. If you look at the FCC listing for them, they amended all of their licenses to add the NXDN mode in June of last year. The New Haven license does not show the NXDN mode option yet on their FCC listing.

I talked to the guy at AMR that was responsible for all their communications systems a year or two ago. They chose NXDN over DMR based on the coverage benefits of 6.25KHz digital, as well as audio quality. He was very pro-NXDN. After having used both DMR and NXDN, I'd have to agree with him.

NXDN a little more secure also of course, in case there needs to be some E down the road.

Anyone monitoring them with a BCD996P2 yet? The NXDN upgrade is the only one I don't have, but I'm thinking about it, especially if/when they switch over the Hartford channel. I think the last time a purchased an upgrade they were around $50 each, now I see they are $75!!! Ouch!!!

I thought NXDN digital was only available for trunking only and not available for single or paired frequencies? Guess that changed recently?

For scanners, or for two way radios?

NXDN has been around for more than a decade and will absolutely do simplex, conventional and trunked. Has been able to since the start.

Took a while for scanners to catch up, however.

OK Thanks. When we got our NXDN system where I work I was told otherwise.

AMR is alive and well in New Haven and it's environs on 453.0250, conventional, no DMR, no NXDN, etc. ad nauseum.
