If I get an answer in time, I'll let you guys know. Another reason I'm asking the radio question is that my family wants to bring in some walkie-talkies to stay coordinated in case we lose sight of someone.

Tronman54 - If I get inside as well, I'll monitor 146.520Mhz... is that simplex?

Yes, 146.520 is simplex. It's the "National" Simplex Calling Frequency
I always take my FRS radios to the show -last 4 years- nobody said nothing about them.
Have fun at the show, weather looks GREAT!

I'd keep the power low and don't stand too close to any unshielded wiring, just to be safe...Mike

You want to keep in contact? Get each others cell phones and text message leave your HT's at home. That's the very reason why scanners are banned at a lot of military installations, THEY DONT WANT TO BOTHER DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN THE TWO!!! That's what happened to me at Nellis. It clearly had no push to talk button but the SP kept referring to it as a walkie talkie. They also don't care to distinguish between a ham radio and a air band transceiver (which are no no's at most air shows). For air shows let's stick to receive only scanners and maybe some more will lift their restrictions. Or at least keep the HT and coordinate from the car.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.6; en-us; SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 Build/GINGERBREAD) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

That's good advice to leave your Ham radio transceiver at home that could cause more harm than having radio that receives.

I'll add these to the wiki - don't forget to see what special tgs Joint Base Andrews is using for the show, along with any PG county stuff (for you PSR-800 fans). That's all fair game

Mike

[edit] As a reminder, here's the wiki link - remember anyone can edit this page. It also has links to the Joint Base Andrews and PG county systems in our db

Than they said push RED10 and the diamond and delta showed up on the fat albert channel 305.900
it sounds like they were haveing some sort of radio problems or interference
Also for the plue angles was 346.500 was mostly ground but heard some stuff while in the air to.
Skytypers 123.425
Boss UHF 379.200
Boss VHF 125.350
122.825 they called discrete but was also linked to pa system sometimes to also used for heritage flight
118.400 tower was active with stuff to all show
376.025 F-22 demo
123.150 Golden Knights and also heard Red Bull Airforce comms on it as well
123.475 when Sean Tucker was flying the ground crew that held the poles was on this.
I will be back there tomorrow. I had allot of people ask what i was listinging to and how they could. I was dirrecting them to the site so hopefully tomorrow will be as good as today was.

I had trouble at the FedEx Field security checkpoint with my 396T. An Army personal who was doing the preliminary screening told me “the Navy was running the show and was forbidden to bring the scanner on to the base”. I told the gentleman in the past years I brought my radio with me without any problems. By that time, I did not want to cause any trouble for myself, so I just walked away. I end up leaving my radio in my car...

I just read in the Bowie Gazette that this will be the last year for the JSOH being held annually; it's going to a bi-annual show now, due to budget cuts.

Yeah, that's it - it's a shame, really - I went the first few years that they brought it back after 9/11 and it's always neat to see all that hardware on display...Mike
