ANG/Fort Harrison

I've checked a few aviation sites, and national listings, but haven't hit on anything specific to Montana Army National Guard in Helena and at Ft Harrison. Is everything from ground ops to air flights on a digital system, or am I just not looking hard enough?

finding freqs

Try scanning for helicopter aviation from 30 - 50 mhz in the AM and FM mode. In the FM mode on 30 - 88 for range control etc. Then try 138 - 150 FM, 163 - 174 FM and 406 - 420 FM for maintenance or security. If you here sporadic noise on 30-88 it could be frequecy hopping Singars radios. You won't be able to hear them until they go into single channel mode.

In the future, the Montana Army National Guard plans on operating on the Montana Criminal Justice Shared Radio System once more phases have been implemented. This will allow them to coordinate with other agencies across the state during an emergency or a disaster. However, they will keep their current radios systems they use as well.

Actually comms in the 137-144 Mhz mode from ANG units, at least here in the East, tend to be AM not FM mode. But I understand some units are carrying transceivers that can go either way. 73s Mike

ANG = Air National Guard, ARNG = Army National Guard. Kind of confusing, but anyway you are right AM mode is used by military aircraft in the 138 - 144 range. 138 - 144 is also used in the FM mode, mostly by the military. There are even trunked systems in that range. The Army aviation units use 30-88 FM quite often because it is compatible with the ground unit radios.

Unfortunately, I've recently started a new job, and been out of town quite often... so I haven't really had the time to follow up on it. This month should be easier to monitor.
