It's been 9 months since we had a get-together. Anyone else interested in another face to face meeting? At Litza's or maybe some other location? I think we had 4 people come the last time, with 3 or 4 others who expressed interest, but couldn't come due to conflicts.

It's fun to get together and just enjoy dinner and chat about radios. Is anyone interested in maybe more formal discussions/presentations as well?

Possible topics:
Utah Radio Wiki (Maybe we could even convince Ryan to give us a tutorial on its use? :) )
Aviation Monitoring
ADS-B
Military Air
Military Monitoring
Federal (New NSA complex)
UCAN
Regional Public Safety Agencies
Unitrunker
Railroads
Audio Recording/Archiving
Radio Equipment

Any others?

I've been subscribed to the UtahScanner Yahoo group, and aside from a weekly email about FCC updates(which I enjoy getting.) there is no activity. What's the history of that group? There seems to be a lot of members. Is there any interest in an email reflector to discuss things? The forums are great, but I don't check them as often as email, especially when I'm out and about or at work. It could be an additional means of discussion?

I would like to see Ryan give you some authority on the Utah Wiki, I believe he gets very busy and the help you could give would keep the site clean of the new users (spam - I looked at the recent changes log), and keep the site up to date with everyday maintenance. Some kind of Admin position to let you assist him.

Maybe if you get together with him at one of your meetings this could be talked about. Just a thought! :D

I just noticed the spammers on the Wiki site tonight. Annoying to say the least. I'd be glad to help any way I can.

The UtahScanner Yahoo group was active until a few years ago, this site pretty much took that group (and others) place. I have been involved with this group and it's predecessors since a handful of us in SL and Utah Counties got together when trunking first appeared.

I think a discussion on Aviation Monitoring and new technologies like ADS-B would be interesting.

I'd be glad to talk about the wiki and community collaboration in general. Is there any interest in coming to Adobe? I could give a tour of the place and then we can talk. I'd need a very firm RSVP from all those coming, however, as there are a number of corporate policies I have to comply with. Having people not show up means a bunch of folks would do work for nothing, which is something I'd like to avoid.

Everyone attending will need to sign an NDA (for Adobe specific IP). We would be limited to about 7 spots. I could also start a simple web-stream of the meeting (with phone call in) for remote people. All our conference rooms are teleconference equipped. The office here is actually a really great place to listen from because you can see the whole southern range (on a clear day).

Can we pencil in Wednesday the 23rd @7pm? First 7 people who can firmly commit to coming.

Adobe sounds great! Can we slide a day before or after the 23rd? Or to that Saturday? If we can, put me down for sure. I'm not scheduled to be off work on the 23rd until after 7:25, and it being winter it's rare that our flights are on time or early, so if y'all do it then I'll have to catch a tape delay version of the web stream.

Jon as for Aviation, I'd love to share on that topic. It would be fun to show off my SBS-3 as well. Perhaps we can tentatively say that will be a topic for a February meeting date and time TBA.

The 24th @7pm would work great. Couple of notes about Adobe:

Adobe's Utah office is in Lehi, just 25 minutes south of Salt Lake City. It is home to more than 900 employees who work at a newly built state-of-the-art campus and building with panoramic views, a full gym, and an NBA size basketball court, providing a unique work/life balance combining a spirit of innovation and abundant recreational opportunities. The team in Utah is focused on engineering, product development, sales, marketing, and operations for the industry-leading Adobe® Marketing Cloud.

Address:
Adobe Systems Incorporated
3900 Adobe Way
Lehi, UT 84043

Quick directions: Get off I-15 at exit 284 (Timpanogos Highway) and head East. Turn North on to Digital Drive (first left, used to be the frontage road). The Adobe campus and visitor parking will be one of the first rights. Follow the signs.

Come in to the main entrance. The security desk is to the left. Let them know you're here for "Ryan Simpkins" (everything is tied to my name in the visitor system). You'll need to wear a temporary badge and sign an NDA that protects Adobe confidential info.

The time scheduling may be a bit tight, so I'll start the walk-through with whoever is there right at 7pm, then pick up anyone who has arrived late when we are done. We will be meeting in the Adobe cafe in the corner conference room. You would be welcome to bring a sandwich or something if you wish, unless someone wants to bring a couple pizzas. Drinks will be provided. Microwaves are also available. We do need to KP ourselves, but I'm sure we can handle that.

In order to RSVP, I'll need your full name. Your name goes in to a digital visitor system with corporate security and needs to match a photo ID - which you will also need to bring. I may not be able to get you in otherwise. If you haven't picked up on it, security is no-nonsense. I wouldn't hide any radios, but I wouldn't show them off either - if that makes sense. Once you get "cleared" in things are usually pretty laid back. It's just getting in that is tighter than most corporate offices around here.

I will set up a public teleconference for the meeting. If you aren't sure you can make the physical meeting the conference might be a good option. To get the most out of the teleconference be sure you have the latest Adobe Flash player installed.

Wouldn't it be super cool if we could some how broadcast our meetings one of these days? One of you ultra-brilliant Ham types could probably figure it out I bet.

Put me on the list and looking forward to it!

As far as broadcasting, streaming online is the only way I know to do it. I have a iPhone app that will send the audio to an Icecast or Shoutcast server (which I have). A sort of quick and dirty way to stream a live event.
