At 8:40 PM on 03/15/09 Troopers responded to a single-vehicle accident on Weld County road 53 just south of Weld CR 58 in Weld County.
A gold 2001 Volkswagen VR6 was traveling southbound on CR 53 when the Volkswagen lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway and rolled one time. The Volkswagen hit a utility on the passenger side of the vehicle. There were two passengers in the vehicle with the driver.
The unrestrained male driver of the vehicle has been identified as Jorge A. Medrano-Bustamante, 29 male of Greeley. Medrano-Bustamante sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Northern Colorado Medical Center. Medrano-Bustamante faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
The first unrestrained male passenger has been identified as Jose V. Medrano-Frias, 18 male of Greeley. Medrano-Frias sustained serious injuries and was transported to Northern Colorado Medical Center.
The second unrestrained male passenger has been identified as Abdiel Morales-Sanchez, 15 of Greeley. Morales-Sanchez was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. Morales-Sanchez was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital in Denver.
The driver of the vehicle, Jorge A. Medrano-Bustamante will be charged with the following:

• 18-6-401 (7)(a)(II) Child Abuse resulting in Death Felony 3
• 18-3-205(1)(b)(I) Veh. Assault (DUI) Felony 4
• 42-4-1601 Failed to remain at the scene and aid after SBI Felony 5
• 42-4-1301(1)(a) DUI M
• 42-2-138(1)(a) Drove a vehicle while under restraint (Denied) M
• 42-4-1409 (3) Failed to provide proof of insurance MT1
