Hey all. I was just wondering if I were to hook up an RCA UHF/VHF/FM TV amplifier to my scanner line if it would pose any problems to the scanner in the long run? Thanks.

They work great for a multicoupler. It will not cause any problems...

Multicoupler?? What are you talking about? He is talking about a preamp.

They might work O.K. as a preamp depending on your environment, however, there are a lot better out there.

Aside from overloading the scanner and receiving a lot iof intermod, no. (Scanners need a couple of microvolts of signal, TVs need a couple of hundred microvolts.)

Most non-professional grade preamps I've ever looked at on a spectrum analyzer tend to raise the noise floor a lot and this could actually make reception worse. As Al42 says, TVs need a lot of signal and most preamps have a lot of gain.

The bottom line though, try it, it won't actually hurt anything and if it causes problems then take it back out.
