It's hard to describe this antenna. It came with my scanner and is designed to be suction-cup'd to the inside of the windsheild of your car. It has a BNC male connector with about 4-feet of black thin cable (like microphone cable). At the end of the black cable is 1 suction cup and a transition to thin copper wire (clear plastic coated like speaker wire with only 1 wire). The copper portion is about 22-inches long with a 2nd suction cup at the end. That is the end I have pinned to my attic peak and it hangs vertically. Since I believe it is basically junk and probably NOT the right length for the 150-160 stuff I have a feeling the 20-176 will offer some improvement, especially if it eventually finds it's way outside on my roof in the spring.
I am resigned ot the fact that since I'm not even getting a weak signal from the target city, a new antenna probably won't do much more. I'm still learning what I like to listen to but it's safe to say that most stuff is in the 150-160 range with a few in the 450-470 and a handful in the 40-50 range. I have found pretty much nothing in the 800Mhz area, and nothing too interesting in the CB/Ham bands. I sit at about 1400-feet an the target city is aroung 500-feet, with some terrain in between. I believe I am on the right frequencies because I've heard them on another scanner at work (I work in the city I'm trying to hear). Again oddly enough I can hear everything from Taxi's to college security in this same city from home, but not police/fire/EMS. Hard to say who has a repeater.
The bottom line is this is a goal for me, but not a big deal if I can't hear it. It would be nice, and it does help me measure antenna performance but it simply may not be possible for now. In the mean time I'm having a blast picking up new stuff and I guess it is all part of the disease....you know....always wanting to hear more.....
