antenna mast ?

i've got a silly question could i use pvc pipe as a antenna mast insted of a metal one, does this affect the performance of the antenna at all?

I guess that is all going to depend on how high you make it and how big of a antenna you put on it. I wouldn't do it though.

I would recommend a metal mast for two reasons, strength/rigidity of the metal mast and grounding. Atmospheric conditions can cause static to build up on an antenna, and a properly-installed antenna mast can help reduce the effects.

A non-metal mast strong enough for the particular situation could be advantageous in some applications, like a vertical yagi or a discone, to prevent interaction with the antenna (detuning). A ground wire would address the static and safety issues.
