Simulcast issues demand LESS antenna, not more, depending on where you are in relation to the site(s) you want to hear.. Plain and simple, if you are using anything less than a SDS100p or 200, these fixes may simply not work very well if at all. You might want to ask other users in the Alabama forum about this. Simulcast is a pain and unfortunately it's a growing trend. A stubby antenna MAY work, but you have not said what scanner you are using

Oh, I totally neglected to mention I’m using an SDS100. So then perhaps the stock antenna is best? Mainly I want an antenna with a BNC connection as I often swap this scanner between my car and home. I use the BNC adapter as disconnecting the scanner with BNC is much easier than unscrewing the SMA, particularly in the car. I haven’t noticed any degradation in reception with the BNC adapter.

I do the same with my SDS100.

And it's a lot easier to replace the BNC adapter periodically than replace the factory SMA connector. Connectors only last for so many connects and disconnects.
