Have a Uniden BCD325P2. Using stock antenna and trying to receive Manchester NH fire control channel 859.4875. Have traced back and found that signal falls about 1/8 mile short of my house. Might a better antenna work? If so, any suggestions? Thanks Jim Ferriter.

This is what I use on my 325P2, much better than stock antenna. Diamond RH77CA, 120-900Mhz.

The system is simulcast across 3 sites so you're likely within range of two or more of them and therefore facing simulcast distortion. An antenna upgrade will only worsen the issue. Read about what it is and ways to try and mitigate it. Ultimately you'd be better off with an SDS100 (or 200) to monitor simulcast systems

I use this antenna which is a 700-900 mhz antenna. Made by L-comm model HGV-906U. Mounted on a tripod in my living room. Much better than the stock scanner antenna

I bought the antenna used several months ago for around $50. I also have a discone antenna outside about 25 feet up with a amplifier. But I use the tripod antenna for my 436, 325P2 and a 536, and the outside antenna is for another 536 I have being recorded on Proscan. The tripod I use is from Walmart made to hold a work light and is much cheaper than one specifically designed for communication work.

I have the L-Com SP97177 model, bought it new off Ebay years ago for $23. Works great for my state police 800 system while still receiving local UHF coms very well. Great antenna. Feeding my SDR setup right now.

Since nothing else was working got a pair of rabbit ears for $12 on Amazon. Getting a srong signal and receiving transmissions. Go figure.
