For my 396T, I bought the RS 800 mhz antenna, but I hate having to use adapters (from SMA types.)

I can highly recommend the Antenex antennas from Scannermasters.com. I'm using their SMA type.

I have both the full size and 1/4 wave low profile. The LP works surprisingly well for it's size. The full size is used when I don't care about its height or looks.

I use the LP about 98% of the time.

I use a Comet GP-15 with 9913 feed line. They mostly use VHF with a little UHF around here. It works great, and I can transmit on it too.

800 MHz Antenna

I have multiple handheld scanners and I listen to 800 trunked frequencies, and the antenna that I use is the RS 800MHz antenna (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102525) but it seems that I do not always catch the entire transmissions; it will drop off or will pick up mid way in the transmission, and usually they come across scratchy. I am less than 5 miles away from the dispatch, so I thought they would come in clear and on point. I do not know if that is from the scanner (pro-97) or the antenna (RS 800MHz). If anyone has any good recommendations or experience for a handheld 800 antenna it would be cool the hear.

I'm far from an expert, but despite trying 5 or 6 different ones I always go back to the RS800 on my Pro95.

Who's dispatch are you trying to pick up? If you're using 851.8125 for KC/VC be aware that the closest tower is on 360th on Federal Way. There's also a repeater on Grass Mountain, but I can't remember if that simulcasts everything. I don't know much about Enumclaw's dispatch, but if I remember correctly, they're VHF.

Since Yakima County is 99.91% VHF I went to radio shack and bought their 20-176 $26 antenna for my PRO-2055. Drilled a hole through my wall into the attic space to run the wire and mounted the antenna on a rafter and it works really, really well. I think the key was using anything other then the antenna that came with the scanner.

For my Kenwood portables I'm using the KRA-26 Kenwood antenna and just the generic scanner antenna for my PRO-97.

In my truck for my scanner, I'm using a Maxrad quarterwave and some sort of tuneable, NMO mount CB antenna. The holes in the roof hurt, but the reception is great. Pictures are available if anyone wants one.

I have the 20-043 model (RS Discone) and it works really good for a base scanner. I use it as my main scanner antenna. It's mounted on the roof but I wish I had it up another 30ft or so.

I recently put up a DPD 700-1000mhz Log Periodic directional and that's my main public safety (866mhz) trunking antenna. It helps make up for my distance to the Tacoma/Puyallup and SERS trunks.
