If you want to make your own multiband antennas you'll have to learn antenna theory. If you want to make single band antennas, start with groundplanes.

Search google for j-poles. Easy to make and lots of different plans available. An outside antenna is best but in the attic will work too or as high as you can get it.

Scanner antennas don't have to be built as critical as antennas for transmitting so you can use really anything that works for your scanner.

Try different things and different locations.

Have fun and good luck.

Good all-around antenna

I read your post about wanting a antenna for your scanner. Well, to receive all the frequencies you want, it depends on how weak of signal you want to pick up and how you will be using the scanner. If this is to be a base scanner, then the bigger the better (to a point). I would strongly reccommend you build a couple antennas and put them on a switch (if you are a serious scanner). First I would figure out the most common frequency that you want to scan. Then build a 5/8 wave for the center of that frequency (300/f*39.37*.625). That would give you good results. J-poles are good antennas, but a moxon might give you better receive. Also, the larger the material (copper pipe versus wire) will give you better bandwidth. (If you were to get into Amateur Radio, you'd learn stuff like this.) If you were to make a series of Moxon antennas, you could make it look like a piece of art and it would load up on the frequency that each is tuned for. The great thing about a Moxon is that if it is placed vertically, it will pick up the horizontal signals as well. But if you are only going to use this as a mobile scanner, then maybe a pocket j-pole is your best bet.

Cummon guys, by the looks of the question and his spelling you're confusing the heck out of him with too many different answers and opinions.

Now 2lazy, ask questions of a more specific nature and give us some information like how far away the transmitters are, what band each is on, where do you want to put the antenna, so on and so forth and we can give better answers. Then again you may be 2lazy to put one up so stick with the one that came with the scanner. (;->)

Your quick to judge a person are you not. What way is that to answer a person..2lazy? Better lay off the sauce awhile i'd say.

Don't waste your time making one just buy the antenna from http://www.antennawarehouse.com called the Scantenna..It is a nice antenna for the price..But some might say that they wouldn't buy it because it is low priced and they are above everyone else and have to have the best...Cheers...Keithmj
