Good day everyone !

Upon just finding out ( I know, I'm slow to read the news :) ) South Windsor just moved to UHF P25, it got me to thinking. How many PD's will follow suit ? I know MOST PD's / FD's in CT are UHF analog (along with a few 800MHZ, etc.) including Manchester, Vernon, East Hartford, Enfield, just to name a few. I know the CSP has been digital for years, and a few others, but the departments that ARE digital in CT are far and few between. (EDIT: ok, so there IS quite a few Digital systems up and running in the Southern part of CT (Fairfield County, etc.) I'm wondering about the Hartford / Tolland side of CT :) ).
I know that MOST of this (doing digital) all has to do with budgets, and I also know that most departments are on SUPER tight budgets at the current time. But, one never knows, (between Federal and State grants, etc.) digital might be in the future for others as well ?

I guess my main question is: what other departments *MIGHT* be going digital in the near future ?

There are quite a few digital departments in NH and FFLD county already despite what you heard.

I can't really think of any other towns in Fairfield County that are planning on switching to digital. The towns that have recently switched to digital in FFLD County have been Redding Police Department, Monroe, Bridgeport Police department should be switching over to digital encrypted at some point this summer. Newtown Police Department switched to digital a few months ago. New Fairfield is in the process of upgrading their radio system not sure if it includes digital or not.

Does anybody have any idea if their are plans for the radio system improvements in Ridgefield or Danbury? Those two towns have seemed to be pretty quiet.

It would be interesting to see if anyone knows if any departments up in the Hartford / Tolland counties will be going Digital as well ? Since there already seems to be a lot of digital activity down in the Southern part of CT.

Im thinking they switched for coverage, UHF would do better than 800 in most cases and digital works a little better than analog for coverage.

As for other departments I hear Middlebury PD is going Digital Encrypted at the end of the summer and west haven is shopping for a new system so who knows.

Vernon

With regards to Tolland County, recent rumors have Vernon PD switching over to a digital system sometime soon, possibly as soon a a couple weeks.

Vernon is finally going digital ! Interesting ! I wonder if they will stay on thier current UHF frequency, or perhaps will implement a totally new 800 system ? I would think they would stay UHF ?

I heard back in June that Meriden Police Dept. was going encrypted, but the Fire Dept. was remaining analog.

in 2008 they put out a RFP for a P25 system complete with replacement of microwave, consoles, etc. Perhaps that has gone full circle and is ready for install.

Tait supplied video makes it seem like it is already in place.

Other than some references to narrowbanding, the city council meeting minutes don't say anything.
