One of the most vibrant group of broadcasters are the pirates who hang out on or around 6925khz. They don't have a lot of power but they make up for it in personality and variety.

Tonight, I logged Radio Ga-Ga on 6925khz USB playing Joe Cocker, AC/DC and CCR amongst others.

In previous weeks, I have logged XFM, Wolverine Radio, Northern Relay Service, Voice of the Runaway Maharishi, WBNY, Radio Ronin and Chamberpot Radio ("the best freaking blues on shortwave" :))

I find it fascinating, as the personas behind these outlaw stations are so varied but they are so committed (in all meanings of the word :))

Anyone else put in time to dig out the pirate SW stations?

Yarr!

Yep. I was an avid listener back in the 80s and just rediscovered the pirate scene last year and was surprised by the amount of activity there is now. Back in the 80s it was actually a challenge to hear a pirate on shortwave and medium wave. I still enjoy it though, especially trying to hear the HF pirates in Europe. March 26th had excellent conditions and I was able to bag five new Euro pirates that night.
