Any site affiliation lists for NJICS?

I live in the middle of the West Orange Simulcast coverage area, and so far that's the only site I've programmed in for the local TGs. But I can also receive Ramapo, Randolph, Bowling Green, Netcong, Walpack and a couple of others using my 40' Discone. Is there any reason to put these sites in as well as West Orange? Are there TGs that call these sites home that don't show up on West Orange and that might be relevant to Essex, Morris, or Passaic Counties? Is there a list of primary agency<>site affiliations available somewhere?

And on a related note, for my mobile setup, does 4-COMM patch into any of these standalone sites? I'm currently monitoring them either on the 800 MHz system (doesn't come in all that well on my mobile 996P2) or on ICS/West Orange. But if I venture further west toward the PA border I'm curious if they affiliate with other sites, too. Thanks!

West Orange is where you will hear the most. you can tinker with the other sites but radios have to affiliate to those as West Orange is the main site for the area. Plus NJSP is patched into the WO site. So plenty to listen to.

Yes, I agree that WO is the best for my part of the state, but I guess what I'm wondering is it worthwhile to program any of these smaller stand-alone sites? Are there agencies that affiliate primarily to those that might only show up on West Orange occasionally or not at all? And if so, has anybody found or made up a list of who affiliates where on a primary basis? For example, on W.O., you'll hear the NJSP enforcement activities on I- 80 (and 95) and 287 from roughly the middle of Morris County to somewhere in Bergen County on 4-COMM, but I don't think I've heard anything east toward the bridge or west toward PA, and I'm figuring either that's separate TGs or different sites.

I had this idea too but I soon realized it was more trouble than it’s worth (only my opinion obviously). Many agencies come across multiple sites, such as Passaic Sheriff for example. They are on the Ramapo sure and West Orange simulcast but recently during a trip to AC, they were coming across the Rutgers site. I still think it’s a worth while idea regardless.

I like to keep things simple, but if I need certain complexity (i.e. adding sites) then fine. The key question in all of this is which agencies affiliate primarily to those standalone sites (if any), and can I hear NJSP as I make my way across 80 or 78 toward the PA border, or visiting a friend up near Wharton.

I may be wrong here... but afaik NJSP is patched to West Orange and that is why they are listenable there/on that tower. Best bet is to just have a scanner with NJSP 800 freqs programmed outside of NJICS. That way you will hear them as you move around the state.

That's what I do now. I can just never get a strong signal off their towers for whatever reason, plus I like the P25 audio. But the point is also more than just the NJSP. Are there agencies that affiliate to those standalone sites in North Jersey, but not West Orange?

Seems like the million dollar question. I don't know of any aggregate list of what towns/rid's are on which sites. Seems all trial and error trying to figure this all out.

If it’s of any use to you on that quest... I used to import what I logged into an excel spreadsheet and sort it by whatever column the sites fell into alphabetically.... alpine, ramapo, etc. and I’d end up with a list of who transmitted on what and when.

One example I can think of is New Brunswick Fire. It has been reported here that they affiliate to the Rutgers site as well as the Union County simulcast. Are you able to pull in the Union County simulcast from your location? They carry a lot of traffic (obviously most of it being the Union County agencies).

Nope, not even with a discone at 40' and a direct 60' run of LMR-400. I've got about 750 feet of granite between me and anything on the other side of the West Orange ridge. Can't receive broadcast or any comms signals out of NYC either. I've got a great shot to the north and west, though.

I can hear NJICS when I go toward Citi Field and the Nassau Coliseum. But not when I get to either so it does go into NYC but not sure how far.

Does this system get as far a the Nassau county queens border

I’m in SW Nassau and it’s hit or miss on the system. I’ve tried different antennas (besides roof mounted) and nothing seemed to work. Little frustrating considering I hear Newark PD and NJSP no problem.
