Anybody monitoring ham networks passing health and welfare messages out of areas clobbered by Helene?

"Ham Radio to the Rescue

I’ve heard it all my life: when all else fails, ham radio still works. And let me tell you, it’s true.

Throughout the storm, our normally quiet repeater systems were buzzing with activity. The traffic became very organized, with hourly nets helping pass messages to family and friends, sharing detailed on-the-ground reports, and identifying areas where help was needed. Even though our emergency services are overwhelmed, we’re able to connect with them via amateur radio networks like ARES.

Right now, being a ham feels like a superpower. For many people, it’s the only form of communication that still works."

from here: Aftermath…
Here in Hickory NC, I listened to the repeaters up in the mountains, but I volunteered at the local airport for the Operation Helo and they had me working with HPD over security. We had some fools with masks try to break in a gate in hopes to steal stuff, our guess, they were dumb enough to think we had pain killers and such for their addiction. But, we squelched that one real quick. The main girl over the operation came up to me and said, I like your presence, you are very intimidating with you size. I want you here all week long of you can. Unfortunately, I couldn’t. The guy that runs the place I work at wouldn’t okay me using my vacation days to do that. Kinda ticked me off. But, I have family that love in Spruce Pine and many friends in Ashville and I kept up through texting with most of them.
