• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Audio from the speaker isn't loud enough to overcome the air conditioning units on a lot of mobile command units so you almost have to get the headset with them and they are pricy for what functions they actually provide.

Agreed, but I got the impression that this was for staff at desks, not a Mobile Command Center.

If this were a Mobile Command, I would suggest that the Telex solution is a much better fit, combining CSoft Consoles and IP-3000 (or IP-2002) units. Both due to functionality, mobility, and the capability to be deployed both inside and outside the physical MCC with a simple Cat-4/5/6 Cable.

Given their price point and the excellent and effortless direct communication, ETC (Essential Trading Systems Corp / www.essentialtradingsystems.com) seems to be best choice so far for my requirements. Will use their CG-904 4-port VoIP gateway that allows connection for up to 4 radios into a private LAN network, and their CS-61 single channel mini consoles (with goose neck mic and internal speaker plus PTT and a volume control) to independently access each radio. The CS-61 also directly connects to the LAN. There is even an optional headset with PTT that can be connected to the console if environment is noisy or more privacy is desired during a communication. They will custom build the radio interface cables and ship the whole system fully integrated, configured and tested. Plus they are even throwing in a free year of support as well. Was told equipment is usually shipped in a week or so ARO, depending on their current workload

I also looked at the Icom VE-PG4 4-port gateway as it would be an almost plug and play easy integration with the also Icom made A120 air band radios to be used in this project. However the gateway being the most expensive part of the system needs to be used at both ends, at the remote radios side, and another one and also required at EACH operator end, because the operator speaker/microphone (HM-241) needs to be plugged into a gateway. In contrast the small stand alone CS-61 operator consoles from ETC can plug directly into the LAN network and require no other hardware then a simple PoE injector. Also the CS-61 is a much nicer and convenient operator interface than a simple hand held RSM (Remote Speaker Microphone).

Another big issue aside from cost with the Icom gateway is that there is currently a 8-10 week factory lead time, so that kind of sealed the fate of any potential deal.

Also looked at JPS and their equipment which seems very similar to ETC, but pricing for a very similar configuration was considerably higher.

Anybody here has used ETC equipment or have dealt with them? Love to hear your experience.

Only in a classroom setting. I had to integrate that device into an Avtec system. Kinda like a mini deskset. We used Kenwood and Motorola mobiles that were hooked up to old Outposts. Super simple setup, and easy to configure.

Thank you for sharing. Yes the ETC devices seem to be easy to setup, I looked a bit through the config manuals and everything seems straight forward. Out of curiosity still wondering if anybody has had a working system experience with them.

It also appears that ETC might the OEM manufacturer for some other known brands out there that offer very similar solutions. Not sure if this is the case but by looking at some devices they look very similar. That would also explain the much lower cost from ETC.

ETC is the OEM for some JPS consoles. I'm waiting to hear back from them regarding pricing on a few items.
