• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

2 weeks out, Tom Brinkoetter and I have 24 students for our RFI class.

I have 14 for antenna and line sweep.

I bought a Rig Expert stick Xpro VNA to demo in class along with my Anristu, Bird Sitehawk, nano VNA and Copper mountain R54.
Stop by W308 and say hi.

The expo floor size has dropped since my early days of going, paging vendors took up a big chunk back before cell phones came out.
I wondered why the radio resource folks did not start a fall show to compete with Informa since both magazines had good content.
The radio resource domain name is for sale now.

If you think there is a need for any ETA classes in your area send a PM, I'm trying to expand my marketing skills and looking at doing regional training.

I'll pass. I was given a choice between IWCE and APCO. Because I love the family friendly environment Baltimore has to offer, I chose APCO.
In all seriousness, I get a lot more out of APCO and the big players in LMR are there. IWCE seems to become a haven for cheap Chinese radio peddlers and corporate spies.

I usually have to choose also, but lack of funding this year means IWCE since it's within driving distance + free expo floor pass + I get to pay out of my own pocket.

I agree, APCO is much more useful and a much bigger show.
IWCE has really shrunk and the influx of CCR manufacturers is sort of blowing its credibility.

I think APCO is back in San Antonio next year?

That would be great...that's a 90 minute drive from the house.

The 75 min sessions at IWCE are good, I have not been able to attend the last few years since I teach all 4 days. The big group chats do nothing for me, Linda and I walked out on one, lots of theater and no stuff. Loud thumping music to start, a fancy stage with colored lighting, the hired a mediator who appeared to know nothing about RF or IT but was a clone of many announcers I worked with in my remote TV production days.

Booming voice, lots of dramatic hand gestures, etc.

Thanks for reminding me why IWCE is a WAFWOT. Not that APCO didn't have a few over the top vendors (the folks from Next Generation Advanced had a way out there Wild West themed booth- it took me a minute to figure out what exactly the point was), but overall the forums at APCO are more appealing to me, and they do a better job of keeping junk peddlers and CCR spies off the floor (though the folks from Tait were mesmerized by my APX NEXT and wanted to take photos of it like it was a hot cheerleader).

I've done the full admission thing in the past and found those flashy talks to be annoying. Fortunately they were usually first thing in the morning and I prefer to sleep in. The smaller sessions were really good and I enjoyed most of them.

APCO is my favorite, by far, but their locations sometimes make it difficult for me to attend. I should be able to pull of San Antonio next year.

One of these things we need to meet up so I can buy you guys some beers.

Damn man, come to APCO in July. Baltimore is such a great place for family to hang out in. Lots to see and do!

Can't go this year, but did put next year in the budget request. I'll see you in San Antonio.
I was in Baltimore several years ago for a meeting and enjoyed it.

Still 50/50 on IWCE. I've got one of the biggest meetings of my career on Tuesday, then a night class with my son Tuesday night. Drive all day Wednesday, get to the expo floor on Thursday, then need to be back in the office on Monday. Doesn't leave much time for shenanigans.
