Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently bought a President Andy (not Andy II) and have a question or two about the WX option.

If I understand correctly, there is an option to listen to WX and an option to set WX to sound off when an alert tone is sent.

I can set it to alert and then resume regular CB listening, but anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes later the radio will return to WX mode. No alarm. It just starts RX'ing the weather. I can press the F and arrow up and exit to resume CB, but it goes back to WX. This is not a weather warning or test. It's just a normal hot and sunny day in Texas.

The only way I've found to make it stop returning to WX mode is to disable the alert option.

Is any of this normal?

Also, I can pay a little more and exchange the Andy for the Andy II if it's a better radio. Aside from a few extra features, Is the Andy II worth another $35? I want a good talking radio that has weather. AM is fine

A weather Radio from Walmart is only $20-$30 depending on the Bells and Whistles you want. That is the better option they even come with Backup Batteries for when the Power is out the CB does not do that.

I have WX with backup in the house. This is for the car. I'd like to check the weather or receive an alert while traveling.

The weather alert tone and subsequent weather audio is triggered by the local area SAME (Specific Area Message Encoding) code as transmitted by the National Weather Service (NWS) transmitter. Weather Radios are usually limited to a fraction of the possible SAME codes. If traveling out of the local area, you will need to enter the SAME code for your current location.

I am aware of SAME and the associated codes and channels. The issue with my President Andy is that it will go to WX without the tone. I can be on any channel and it will jump to the weather.
