Hi,

Live outside of Boston.
Time is 10:14 UTC (or local is 6:14 AM)

Up real early, so this is a bit unusual for me.

Picked up on 6.050 am what sounds like Chinese music.
Would be "exciting" for a real amateur like me to do so. Likely from China ?

A dowloaded database shows China as a possibility.

Sure makes it rough to ID when so many stations use the same freq. at the same time.
Any tricks in doing so ?

Anyone ID this ?

Thanks,
Bob

That's Radio China International -They have sites in Cuba that transmit to South America and the United states.
Another set of frequencies used in the afternoon and evening for the East Coast are 9.570 and 9.580.
The English Broadcast is around 9-10pm EST
Your receiving them on 6.050... I know they Use 6.020 in the evening.
I listen to WRMI Miami on 5.950 around 9pm-10pm so I check RCI for Propigation.

Hi,

Thanks.

For me, even hearing Cuba, clearly, is a bit of an accomplishment.

Would have been even more so if it was direct from China.
Next time.

Best regards,
Bob

To help with IDing a station on a given frequency, it helps if you can ID the language that is being spoken. That is the easiest way to determine a station on a SW station list if there happens to be more than one station on the frequency at a given time.

Also, you may want to try for the Voice Of Greece on 9420 khz during weeknights. If conditions are good, they usually are audible -- even here in the PNW. Greece is what I would consider a decent SW catch, even from Boston.

When SW conditions pick up as the sunspot cycle improves you should be able to hear China broadcasting from China, although it may be in a different language from English. When sunspots were better I heard China broadcasting to Europe in a couple different languages, from their transmitters in Xinjiang (Kashgar, in western China), just on a Grundig G2 off its whip antenna.

Live outside of Boston.

Bob, I live outside of Boston as well and this past weekend was the first time I ever tried SW listening. I made a quick random wire antenna and caught WRMI, and what seemed like a station from Cuba on Sunday morning. I too feel pretty accomplished for my first attempt! I believe stations are supposed to broadcast their call signs at the top of the hour so if you have time try to catch that.
