Bought a Home Patrol 1 scanned used. I tried to update the sentinel and database however my computer runs Chrome not Windows. Wondering if anyone in the Cranston area can do it for me.

Get in touch with Scanner Master @1 800 Scanner ( 1 800 722-6637) They will tell you how to ship your scanner to them by UPS They will program your scanner for a reasonable price per county then ship it back to you by UPS It takes around 10 days Good luck

Thanks. Cant do shipping or any of that. My computer uses Chrome but the scanner update requires a Windows computer. That's all. Rather pay someone locally, but thanks.

The Scanner Master info is partially correct. A replacement SD card could be created for you and shipped to you. It is not necessary for that scanner to be sent for programming.

However (and it's a big however)...

If you're in Cranston the police department is encrypted, meaning you will not be able to monitor them. As to Cranston Fire, they use the RISCON statewide P25 system, which is a Project 25 Phase I Simulcast system. Your scanner is not compatible with simulcast systems and as such would likely suffer from what is known as "simulcast distortion". This is a well documented issue that only the Uniden SDS line of scanners can overcome in most cases. There are workarounds but more often than not they are not successful.

Are we building a rocket to Mars here or what ? Ha. I bought a Uniden HP scanner, was told it needs firmware update. I hear some channels and Cranston Fire / Rescue. Unsure why everyone is trying to zigzag me, I see people on YouTube doing updates with their computer which I do not have. That's all.

No rocket ships here. You're looking for programming. Another person suggested an option. I expanded on the option, and advised of some potential limitations of the scanner based on what you may be trying to listen to.

Best of luck!

More than appreciated, also please take my humor as gratitude. I did buy the scanner to hear the city of Cranston, I did then find out the top channels are "E" encrypted. ( dispatch, etc. ) I suppose I am trying to salvage my interest rather than sell the scanner which is selling on Ebay for more than I paid.

If you are hearing Cranston Fire clearly on RISCON at your location, you may be lucky that simulcast distortion is not a factor. If you are close to one of the towers in a simulcast cell, it can override the out of phase interference from the other towers. You will probably have problems with missed transmissions and garbled audio if you travel in the area.
