Hey all,
I’ve been looking into adding GPS functionality to my Uniden BCD436HP and came across this write-up that shows how to make a DIY single-cable solution using a GlobalSat BR-355S4 puck and a Mini-B 4-pin USB cable.

I’d probably just make one myself following that guide, but it seems like the exact GPS puck model he used is hard to find now, and I’d prefer an internal GPS mod if anyone is currently offering those (either pre-installed or as a kit).

So I’m wondering:

Is anyone currently offering an internal GPS mod for the BCD436HP?
If not, is there anyone selling a plug-and-play GPS puck that powers the scanner and feeds GPS over a single cable (no extra battery or spaghetti wiring)?
I’d love to keep the setup clean and minimal — ideally no external battery packs or secondary cables.
Any leads or recommendations would be much appreciated!
Also is Jonwienke definitely NOT doing these mods anymore?

John did some remarkable stuff with these radios but basically vanished.

Note: The current (official) Globalsat substitution/replacement for the BR-355S4 is the BR-355N.
However, they are currently out of stock - on Amazon anyway...

I just searched eBay and there is a BR-355S4 for sale $67. And I also saw Promaster 3696 cables on Amazon. They don't always have either of these on sale, but I see new GPS units come up at least every couple of weeks on eBay with the same model number (BR-355S4). Just need to be patient and add it to your wishlist and it will notify you when they come up.

I have an old BR-355S4 that the PS2 connector is cut off of.
(I was going to use it to build a xtra 436 cable and never needed it)

For anyone looking to 'roll their own' feel free to PM me.

Years ago I posted how to make your own GPS with charging. Use the search.

I searched but couldn’t find your write up
