I scan the MPSCS from the grayling tower, but i never hear the michigan state police up there. I hear Roscommon county sheriff, and a few others i cant remember right now. Anyway...everything comes over EXCEPT the state police tg's for that district up there. And yes...i've tried everything, open mode, closed mode, different sites such as St helen and Harrison on my Pro-96. Still no state police. Any ideas, do they even transmit on any of these towers?

7160 is a Troop car.
Troopers here are assigned a call sign like Baker or Adam in our District with the exceptions being Monroe #28, Ypsilanti #26 and Groveland #27 which go by 281 usualy said TWO EIGHT ONE.
In the other districts each Trooper is assigned a number usualy from 40 up to 89. So 7161 would be a Trooper from the 71 Post and his call sign is 61 so he goes by 7161.

In Chippewa County MSP is dispatched through Central Dispatch with a callsign of 93XX.
Just as a side note. Border Patrol in Chippewa County goes by the callsigns of SierraXX. They are "dispatched" (although extremely rare to hear them dispatched) on their own channel (talkgroup), but run plates and talk with Central Dispatch (and City, County and State units) on Central Dispatches talkgroup. Just thought I'd share.

BTW #73 is Gaylord Post and #71 is Traverse City Post.

The state police from post 75 (Houghton Lake Post) use by the Roscommon county dispatch freqs. When a car goes to Crawford county (Grayling area) they then switch to the Crawford county freq of 154.725. Most of the time they stay in Roscommon county. About the only time they use station 70 is when they check in and out of service and for an occasional complaint number.

that would be District 7 Headquarters in Williamsburg. Station 70 is the regional dispatch center in Gaylord as was stated. they also serve as dispatch for Otsego Co in the same building.

I take my scanners up to the cottage in the Houghton Lake area. On the St Helen tower, the 71 cars are conservation officers. The state police are 75 series. R10 is Denton Twp police. I don't hear much on the Grayling tower, but maybe I'm not paying that much attention to out of area stuff.
I hear West Branch cops making a hell of a lot of traffic stops all in the same place, to the extent that I wouldn't set foot in West Branch.

Yea, Houghton Lake is where i go. and thanks for clarifying R10 as denton, i never knew that. I have always been searching for there freq. And are all of those agaencies transmitting on TG 4069 (Rosco Sheriff)?

yes they are all on the Sheriff Main and LEIN channels. Besides R10 the county units also go by R-XX. The 65-X* units are Richfield PD and the 17-X Units are Gerrish PD. If you listen to the DNR, station 16 is the regional office in Roscommon and station 90 is the field office in houghton lake. The fire and ems unit numbers are listed under the Roscommon Co page here on RR.

In the spring, you will hear the DNR firefighters, and the air units, all on the St Helen tower. I had to lock out a lot of junk talk groups, like Camp Grayling, some prison unit, campground workers setting out picnic tables at the state park, motor carrier officers talking about weight limits. Amazing how much stuff is on 800 digital. Still lots of agencies on VHF too.
And some of them think because they are now digital, no one is listening. I heard one state cop tell another to go to some channel. My radio followed. The cop said, "Is this a secure channel"? The other cop said yes, it was. But they didn't say anything important. I also heard some motor carrier cops discussing all the overtime they were getting with the spring weight limits. Lets not tell them, we are listening. Heh heh heh.
