I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to work for WCCCA (Washington County 911)

I am applying for the open position, but if anyone has a friend or relative who works there I would LOVE to talk to them

May the best man win, and buy the other one a beer

If you (or he) get the job, please remember to speak SLOWLY and speak directly into the mic. Some dispatchers forget that their purpose is to communicate. If you speak too softly or too fast, it only results in repeats and misunderstanding.

Will do. You dont happen to work for an agency that WCCCA dispatches for do you??

Or is that request just referring to all dispatchers in general ?

No.

Just some advice based on hearing and/or doing it for more years than I can remember. :)

One of the worst in the area is a woman in Clackamas County. She talks so fast it's really hard to catch street names, etc.

OMW!!! That Clackamas Dispatcher needs to relax and let it flow. Last weekend (4/15) I kept hearing the officers asking for repeats and then ... I didn't think they either, cared ... or choose to ignore her while a pursuit was occuring.

WCCCA has some of the best Dispatchers around the tri-county area. I mean it. It's kind of addictive to listen how truly professional they (most) are. They aren't unemotional "robots"...some appear to have an awesome sense of humor.

I hope both you get employment with WCCCA.

I agree !! I love to listen to WCCCA (not just because I live in the area) but because they are (most of them) truly professional while still being able to have a good laugh now and again.

I heard one of the female dispatchers about 2 nights ago, dispatch police on a call of some kids running in the sreet wearing sumo wrestling outfits and she chuckled right in the middile of the dispatch, you could hear her partner laughing at her in the background. It was great.

On the professional side of things: A few months ago I heard a dispatcher send police to her OWN APT where an ex-boyfriend of her babysitter was trying to get in. The dispatcher not only gave the officers all kinds of detail about how to find her place, but also gave them background info on the susp, all while they were en route to HER HOME!

Yea, WCCCA rocks

I went to a 'sit-a-long' which was REALLY COOL - I was supposed to be there for 2 hrs, but they let me hang out for almost 4 hours! :D :D

Friday I have a 'final' interview with the head cheese folks
kinda nervous

but who knows, wish me luck !!! (again)

:D :D

(belated) good luck!

I accompanied a new group of rail controllers to BOEC a year or so ago for sit-alongs. After the sit-alongs were over, I was headed to Seattle for an overnight trip. We got to BOEC at 10:00 am, and the class left at two. The dispatcher I was sitting with invited me to stay until traffic had thinned out a little and I stayed until a little after 6.

It's amazing to watch a dispatcher or telecommunicator that really knows what they are doing do their job -- and do it well (not to mention while putting up with putzy questions from an outsider while doing it!).

As much as a lot of public servants are underappreciated, the 9-1-1 dispatchers are almost never even acknowledged -- except when they make a lot of money working overtime.

And they really do have some strange things to deal with.

Joe,
Was he the older man with snow white hair? His name escapes me at the moment, but he is really good - the best one up there.

Can't remember physical description; think it was the Tapout dispatcher, Kevin maybe? Yes, he is good. I hung out in the fire pod quite a bit that day :)
