• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

All,

Yesterday on a run from Dallas to San Antonio and back I was getting intermittent 'high swr' on 19. VFO is in fact 27.185. I was using the 'DW' function which scans 17 and 19 in my case. If I keyed on 17 I was at 1.0, 19 was 'hi swr'. A while later and this morning, 19 was back to 1.0. My coax/connectors are perfect. I have no rx issues.

Did you check the antenna itself for anything loose/broken? If everything does check out with the antenna and feedline, it does call into question the accuracy of the radio's meter, as per @DeeEx above.

Could be an intermittent open/short between the radio’s transnit RF circuitry and the antenna tip. Does channel 17 or any other channels exhibit high SWR intermittently while transmitting? Does the high SWR indication occur when sitting still with the motor off (no vibrations) or does it only occur while moving? In addition to using an external SWR meter for troubleshooting, also consider swapping out the radio itself.

It's peculiar because there is NO consistency. Currently it's at 1.0. Earlier it was 1.4 then HI SWR across all channels. My install is sound. May send it out to get checked. Happens driving, idle, truck off.

Unscrew the antenna and make sure the NMO mount is clean/dry. Make sure the little tab under the coil is not crammed up too high.
Unscrew the whip and make sure it's clean. Reinstall and make sure you put a bit of torque on it.
Make sure the set screw is tight holding the whip in place.

I've run across intermittent issues like this in the past, and it was usually one of the above items.

And, yes, check the coaxial connector. If you are using any adapters, suspect them heavily. They are common failure points.

You're my Yoda, Matt, so I just tried that. Connection was physically sound and the coax is sound...you know the build.

There was some dielectric grease accumulated in there so I cleaned both sides. SWR currently at 1.0 and I hope it stays there!
