If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am having an issue with the Anytone AT-6666. I liked it because it does both CB and 10m. However, it seems to have poor sensitivity on at least the CB band. I have not tested it on 10m - need to put up an antenna. My $90 handheld Cobra Model # HHRT50 with either a rubber duck or a CB dipole picks up channels from the highway 10 miles away through hills and woods, whereas on the Anytone I get dead silence. Yes, I am on band D and squelch is set to 1. When I scan on AM, AM USB, or AM LSB, I get nothing, nada, dead silence, but my handheld hears channels. So, unless I have a wrong setting somewhere, it appears that a $90 handheld is better than a $260 mobile. Yes, I did test to see if the handheld and mobile can communicate within our house and it does work - just not for distance. I contacted the seller but get a boilerplate response indicating they have not even read my email.

Any ideas on this? Is the Anytone AT-6666 just a poor receiver or is something else going on? Maybe some obscure setting needs tweaking? By the way I love the Cobra Model # HHRT50 Handheld CB - good sensitivity and clear voice..

Have you had the rain and thunderstorms like here? I thought I could seal connectors but I was wrong. My 11 meter is shot along with my OTA, have not figured out if it was a result of a nearby strike or water intrusion.

I read the Amazon reviews on the Antone 6666 and it scares me out of buying it..... 90 percent positive.... But still hundreds said they could not receive well.... Some sent the radios back and got another one with same problem then returned for refund ... Others said they took them to a cb shop and had it tuned up and is working fine .... .but if the cb shop didn't sell it they won't work on it .. I saw a YouTube video of Rooster Cb he sells them $324 but goes through them first and tunes them up.. If I get one I think I will go that route..... Hate getting stuff from China with no real support... At least if I buy it from someone I can call and talk to I know it will be taken care of for the remainder of the warranty ..... so it looks like there is a problem with a percentage of the Anytime 6666

I would test the sensitivity and S meter cal with a service monitor or signal generator before condemning the unit. I would also highly recommend the Anytone AT5555N II over the 6666 for anyone looking at a new radio due to features and performance.

It’s a new era with the released-last-year circuit board from Qixiang found in the Q5 and Ares as well as some orher brands. Older radios are now obsolete.

My big truck system replacement cost went from $1,400 to $700 as some Amateur outboard gear no longer needed, plus greatly simplified installation.

I expected 90% of the same performance. But received 105%.

What you’ll acquire for the $200-250 cost is the central component for the best mobile system given no details left out re clean DC power and quietest antenna system. Do that work and there’ll be no comparison unless you spent like I did on what this replaces.

Skip
today was such that I spoke a few times from east of Amarillo with an Oversized team maneuvering onto and off IH-35 near Oklahoma City. My better radio system made it effortless. As though we were 5-7/miles apart, not 200+ (Skip isn’t always conducive to immediacy, mobile-to-mobile).

By “better” I mean the cleaned up RX, and NRC-altered TX. (Level 3 seems best).

All of us moving in excess of 60-MPH.

I’ve bought two fairly expensive radios the past three years prior to the Q5. Lacking NRC, they’re on the shelf at home unless I add an outboard DSP unit.

When I do add it, it’s $600 to $700 worth of radio versus the Q5 at $260.

Hi, I am a very new person to radios and I have a question about your post and the two pictures. I’m having a hard time understanding which is the better radio. Is it the first one or the second one thank you.

if you have the room, get the Anytone 5555 N II it is truly an amazing radio you will have to do a small modification... just cut a wire and move a jumper.... just You-Tube it... it's VERY EASY..... PRCGUY and SLOWMOVER suggested the 5555 N II to me and they were right on the money! really made the hobby great for me... a cheaper cb radio probably would have caused me to give up on CB......the 5555 N II has a noise reduction circuit ( NR ) that gets rid of most of the back ground noise where the 6666 doesn't.... getting rid of the back ground noise is a miracle!!!... the two radio's SlowMover showed you both have the NR technology so either will be a great radio.

I had my Anytone 5555 N II for 6 months and it was PERFECT best radio ever... then one day I had the same problem??? I just couldn't pick anyone up that was more than a couple miles away???? I was ready to send it out for repairs when I found it!
on the 5555 N II the power button and the RF Gain are on the same knob... and I had somehow turned the RF Gain all the way down... I turned it to max again and could hear South Africa and Ireland again!
hope that's all it is for you.. I bet it is.

Try, inadvertently switched bands, you want real fun. One which is a deserted planet on AM, LSB, and USB.
