I’ve recently been playing around with a lower budget portable 2-way radio I purchased from an RR member through the classified section. Occasionally, the radio’s user interface produces some of the most hilarious spelling and grammar “Chinesium Easter Eggs” .. 😂
The AnyTone AT-878UVii Plus has an integrated audio recording feature. (writes to optional micro-SD card) When I tried programming a function key to start “recording” received audio manually, I experienced some odd results.
It worked just fine in digital/DMR mode, but on ANALog channels….
The radio displayed a somewhat hilarious error message. Several of my friends naturally assumed it to be a reference to certain recent events in the mainstream news. Yup, the mysterious case of infamous music mogul and Demoncrat Diddler — “P.Diddy” and the thousands of bottles of lube seized during a raid and search warrant execution.
😳😂
Surprisingly enough, the radio is nothing like the typical low priced Baofeng junk I’ve encountered over the years. While certainly not built like a Motorola, BK or Hytera, etc.. and definitely a bit flaky at times, but, for $200-300, it makes a great little personal portable HT:
With included features like:
Dual band UHF/VHF, small physical package, USB-C rechargeable batteries (without requiring the charging base) , DMR “monitor” function selectable by CC / Slot, DMR audio traffic recording, extensive FPP capabilities, NOAA Weather Radio receiver w/alerting, FM terrestrial radio receiver / QC-2 decode + encode with transpond, etc…
All that, with the occasional bit of amusement tossed in for operator entertainment.
