Hi all.

Wondering if anybody knows where to obtain a new speaker for my AOR8200B and/or has advice on repair.

The original speaker is marked as follows. Foster 036S23 8ohm 0.5w 7H94

When removing the keypad for repair(adding aluminum foil to back of nonworking keys), I accidentally broke the speakers connections.

Prefer to fix it myself if possible, but am willing to send it in to AOR for repair if need be(if AOR repair service is available for such a thing)and others suggest that route.

If I send it in for repair, maybe they can fix the keypad issues while it is there ?

Thanks for your time.

It's usually possible to fix if the thin copper lead to the speaker cone have broken.
Solder a tin wire to the top of the glasfiber where the copper lead is soldered and bend around the glasfiber for machanical stability and point the end to where the reamining copper lead from the cone can be reach and solder the two together.

All other problems is just a dab of solder on the broken part.

Appreciate the info.

So I removed the speaker and looked further, pulled up the two tiny wires that are glued to the back of the speaker as far as I could to get some slack. The two wires appear to be twisted or laid very closely side by side and glued to the back of the speaker. I worry that applying heat for solder would melt the insulation on the wires and short them out. Maybe too risky for now.

I ordered a set of speakers from Amazon, they should be here tomorrow. 8 dollars for two.

From what I can tell the original speaker is about 36mm x 4mm. The speakers I ordered appear to be the same diameter and hopefully the right depth.

Not sure about the Uniden 436 speaker size being correct, it may be more like 30 or 31mm from what I can tell, also appears to be 24ohm(if that makes any difference).

My speaker is pictured with the red background, the other appears to be the Uniden speaker. Also a pic of the radio there.

Thanks again for the help, will post pics when the repair is complete.

Seems like the new Gikfun speaker from Amazon works well, so far so good, sounds normal.

36mm diameter is a fit perfect fit, the depth of my new speaker might be more like 4.25mm instead of 4mm, but it cleared without any trouble.

Now maybe I need a new charger(will be my 3rd over the years)and a new radio case/carcass and keypad(foil works for now), the batteries overheated some years back and distorted the battery tray a bit. Never did like how the rechargeable batteries fit in there even before the melting/distortion, always seemed way too tight.

Some pics of that new speaker,

Thanks much.

The same problem with my 8200 that the batteries almost cracks the case.
The designer must have used some out of spec batteries when settling for the dimensions or the mold was wrong and it was too late to correct it.

Speakers have different sensitivity and frequency response and could bottom out very quickly at low volume. Does the new speaker have the correct audio response, not to muffled or squeky and handles high volume levels?

The speaker / sound seems good, same as it ever was, if not better.

Will run it without batteries, just have to keep it connected to a power source(as usual).

I will have to contact AOR in the future to replace the case and keypad.

Guess I need to find shorter AA batteries somehow for when the case is replaced.

For now the keypad and speaker are working.

Thanks again .

Over the years I've only charged my batteries in a charger meant for batteries. Carry extra battery with you. Read too many stories of melted cases and such....
