AOR AR-2002 Question

I dusted off my old AOR AR-2002 (modified to AR-2515) radio and it powers on but the control and programming isn't easy. I would prefer to use software. I lost the floppy disc MS-DOS software for it and just got ahold of a Windows XP PC. Does anyone know if there is other software available that controls this scanner on an old laptop running Windows XP or MS-DOS? I can use a serial RS232 com connection (with DB25 adaptor) to connect to the laptop. Also, does anyone know if the AR-2002 had an internal battery on it? I believe the later model, the AR-3000A, had a battery inside.

I have both the AR-2002 and the AR-2515... both were bought new soon after they became available directly from ACE Communications in Indianapolis.

The AR-2002 has a capacitor that keep the memory contents stored for about a week if you disconnect the AC adapter. I bought mine when they first came out however, the capacitor failed several years ago and within 30 seconds of disconnecting the AC adapter, I loose all the memory contents and have to reprogram it by hand. The capacitor is replaceable but I don't have the talent to do so.

The AR-2515 has Non-volatile EEPROM storage so the memory content will last forever. Some of the programming in my AR-2515 is the original stuff I put in it 30 years ago. It has been disconnected from the AC adapter for as much as several years, but the content is always there when I power it up.

You are correct, the AR-3000A has a battery but is likely it needs replacing if it is the original battery.

The original manual that came with the AR-2515 has all of the programming information and references a program that ACE Communications in Indianapolis apparently wrote. They were the company that took the AR-2002 and modified it to make the AR-2515. I never bought the programming cable or tried to program my AR-2515, everything has been manually added including a couple of new frequencies about 3 months ago.

Incredible news - I finally found the original disks and manuals for Scancat-Pro DS-HD disks plus the ACE Scanner Control System 3-floppy set. Just hope they will play after 20+ years of sitting in storage.

Did you get the disks to work, friend has the scanner but display broke... I'll also search for replacement display, haven't opened it but from images online looks there's couple of wires to solder too (if one is replaceable).

I've used dosbox earlier to run some dos stuff, I also have couple of old PC's so could make a dedicated machine hmm... :)

(Finland, so it's kind of small market for used AR's, none in ebay atm I think, I'll try to translate some Polish site etc...)

I got the disks loaded on the Windows XP laptop but the serial connection isn't recognizing the port. I am still trying to figure that out. Problem is old Windows XP browsers don't support a lot of web pages and so it's tricky to figure out the issue. I start up DOS with a floppy disk on the laptop and then load the radio control program from there. I recall that's the same way I did a while back on a different computer and it worked just fine. But the "new" Windows XP laptop I got doesn't seem to work as well.
